Ok, I just got a great deal on stage II lexreme regrinds and want to make sure I have every step visualized before I do my install. These are the specs:

Stock 2UZFE: 250 duration 315 lift
Stage I: 266 duration 345 lift
Stage II: 274 duration 385 lift

I have a set of .060'' lash caps in the mail that I assume rest on top of the valve stem, sandwiched under the buckets right?

Well, I had my heads rebuilt recently and I never messed with setting the clearance. I expect to use my feeler gauge to check mine... but if a lash is out, whats done to bring it back to spec? I rebuilt pushrods that had hydraulic rollers so I never had to do this.

Q-Does the "dimple" on top of shim spin to raise/lower clearance? Or do I need to shave the lash caps provided?

Q-My exhaust cams did not come with scissor gears so I need to swap, any tricks I should know before doing this?
-I am aware to lock the gear once pre-loaded.

Basically anything I should know about doing a regrind swap with oem caps/lashes (lash caps at .060''provided). Thanks!

I think Cribbj can answer your other questions. As far as the shim adjustment by spinning (crew type) is not going to happen. The shim is a spacer for cam clearance. So by turning it, it doesnt alter the height.

FYI,

The 2007 5.7L Toyota Tundra uses lash caps. So I would assume all new Toyota V8 engine from 2007 and newer uses lash caps. URFE engine that is.

I have a diagram for the order of operation and a how to for the special tools needed. Just never actually done this and want to make sure everything rotates like it should.

So basically I add the lash caps and DO NOT mess with them? Just taking out the shims on top and grinding/swapping to bring to spec? If all i'm doing is grinding a few thousandths off then should I go buy a bunch of shims to work with? And can I pick these up at kragen/pep boys? Or should I look into the dealer?

I just need to know whats involved with removing shims from their buckets and whats the most accurate way of machining shims down.

I already have a micrometer but anything else I should have?

You wouldn't bother machining shims. Just work out the sizes you need and buy from Toyota, they're not overly dear.

Thanks Nemesis, i'll call my local toyota dealer for support. Do you know how to get the shims out of their buckets? I want to say attached somehow to the buckets?

There's a few ways, I 'think' there's a DIY guide on the net somewhere.

You need a special tool to compress the bucket, then you get the shim out. They only sit in the seat, there's nothing holding them, but the oil underneath them can act as a vacuum.

What I did was use something with a tiny hook/prick on the end because the shims have a little hole in them, you hook on to it with the hole. I have heard that blowing air into the hole makes them pop out too.

I have just been through everything you are doing. Yes, Buy shims to the correct thickness. I have a full set from a stock motor, No Idea if there might be a thickness you need. As far as getting the shims out of the bucket I used a strong magnet. All that is holding them is a vacum. If you get knee deep in it and have questions feel free to contact me. I am in KS

Ok I am waiting on my lashes before I start popping bolts but the local toyota dealer should have special size shims right?

Hey scott, thanks for lending some input. Just curious but did you lose any low end when you installed yours? What was your opinion before/after install? Rocking the lextreme stage II's also? I dont get much boost down low but with my TC and partial boost it isn't a dog either.

Try and fid the shim part numbers grid/table (again, I'm sure I got it on the net just not sure where.) It gives you the thickness for each part number.

Then when you work out what ones you want, order those part numbers.

I took the printed table to my local parts desk and he knew what I wanted straight away. I had to wait a few days whilst they ordered them in though.

I actually had a set of the stage II cams but never got the chance to drive with them, I pulled them for a set of custom ground cams. Still my valve train took a ton of work, I ended up going completly shimless. If you like PM me your email and I will send you a couple things that will help alot.

I was planning on having these cams marked and removed already but it always comes down to the UPS truck. Can someone give me an idea of where these lash caps go? I am aware the shims sit inside their bucket but these caps go underneath the buckets... right?
