you'll need 6 ignition outputs for waste spark, 12 injection outputs for sequential injection....

You will definitely need an expander with the m800.... i looked into this long ago as a possibility, but turned away when i realised i could do the same thing with the same resolution with Autronics for a fraction of the total price of the m800 with all the reqiured bits.

Eventually, i would like to run 2 sm4's for complete sequential operation.... but not just yet. For now, getting the engine running is still priority #1.

R-jay, I'm a bit confused and would like to pick you're brain a bit more about the Autronic. I thought the SM4 had 8 injector outputs and 4 ignition outputs? Are some of the auxillary outputs able to be configured to either ignition or injector outputs? If this is the case how many? If the SM4 can run full sequential injection on a 12 cylinder engine, what are the advantages of running 2 x SM4 to get full sequential ignition instead of just installing an ignition expander? Are the cost's (and headaches I can imagine) of installing 2 x ECU's justified just to get full sequential ignition instead of wasted spark? My understanding is that there are not too many dis-advantages with wasted spark, but there are a few advantages e.g. emissions. I am definitly not having a go at you're choice of ECU just want to get all the information so I can make a better decision on which way I will go.

It's my understanding that from the factory these engines can run both sides independent of the operation of the other. In other words if you have a breakdown in one side of the engine you can simply run 6 cylinders. If I'm wrong just ignore me lol.

It may be completely useless information, but I was talking with a guy today about V12's and he was telling me that you could run two Ford EDIS-6 modules on a V12 for spark. Unfortunately, the Megasquirt module doesn't support sequential injection if thats what you want.

the sm4 on it's own won't be able to support sequential injection and ignition. It can run batch fire injection and wasted spark though..... Why bother running 2 for sequential injection and ignition? to pass emmissions.... economy (if you can call it that) is a by-product

Funny how everyone gives BMW a hard time for running their V12 as two 6 cyinder engine but when Mr Toyota does it everyone thinks that's OK.

In fact it was described (on this Forum) as backward or cheap.

Had a look at stock ecus, different part numbers and one has more pins, no surprise, you would expect one to have a module to co ordinate both sides of the engine.

Crambo, I have been speaking to a company called Quick fit motorsport, They say that if you have the ECU's and wiring harness and you post the lot to them they will be able to send it back to you ready to "Plug and Play" e.g. connect power, earth etc.

QFM did my loom.

I don't have any output for a tacho or fuel pump control.

Personally I'm less than impressed.

Did they give you any indication as to why these functions do not work as that could be handy to know, I know in my Supra the fuel pump signal from the ECU is a pulsed signal ranging from 0-5v. This is to control the 2 speed pump and would be hard to duplicate.

Got my spare engine before the exchange rate messed up the cost of buying these things.



Cut some big holes to allow engine to go back as far as possible but there will still be some clearance problems with the swaybar, so the mounts for that will have to be altered.

SPARE? You mean you own more than one of these beasts? Some people have all the luck (or know where to look!) :dunno:

The Yen has gone up a little and the AU$ has gone down a lot, our import specialists have been hit hard by the drop in business, in fact the import service I used for both engines has closed down and will consider returning if things improve.

This engine was stripped bare but does have a loom and intake manifolds.
(Oooh, it does have engine cover with a big fat V12 badge, like the other)
The auction said it was a "core" for parts or rebuild.

My estimation is it has a blown head gasket or a coolant related problem. ATM it can just sit in the shed, or should I take a pic of both engines together so you can believe I have 2, LOL!

Are the heads/cams unique or two 2JZ heads on these engines. What about bore and stroke - are they 2JZ specs. How much aftermarket gear is available?

Being that the 2JZ is a G head and the 1GZ is an F head what your asking isnt even remotly possable.

as for bore and stroke, its a 5L so thats 2.5 L per side so cant be the same bore and stroke as a 2JZ eather.

Aftermarket gear is totally up to your fab skills.

I was going to make up plenums for the lower intake runners but am now looking at maintaining the complete lower manifolds with the ACIS and make up new upper manifolds that will bolt on and locate the TBs low down so I can shut the hood.

Starting the headers soon, 1.5" x 15" long primaries paired 180 degrees apart then 3 into 1 (each side of course).

Ford rad and fans. I'll put up a pic when photobucket is back up.

mate - have you actually put a 2JZ head on the 1GZFE?

or even compared head gaskets?

if you haven't, then you should probably refrain from posting on the subject.

if you have, then my apologies.

discouraging people to try stuff, just because you "think" it won't work, is not on. discouraging people to not try something, because you've compared the two physically - well, if you would expand on your findings as to why then maybe someone else could come up with a solution - but at least you've got reason.

did you know the 20V 4AGE head bolts to the 7AFE toyota block? one is a G head, the other an F. why can it not work in this situation?
