almost finished sc install...

but on turning the key it throws the belt...comes off the front of 2 little idlers below sc....

all looks and measures true...why?

will post up pics of install once find camara charger..(dooh)

but here is something very very similar..only difference of note is ac replaced with alternator.so smaller pulley there.

on looking at it again, prehaps the alternator (where ac used to be) is a bit pissed...who much error is allowed before it gives grief...wasnot throwing belt without sc fitted..)

As David said - and the best way is with an absolutely flat piece of steel and use it as a straightedge.

Alternatively, pull your EFI main fuse and crank the motor over and watch where it starts walking off the pulley. The first one where it starts walking is usually the culprit, or it's next to the culprit.

You might be able to fabricate some pulley guards for your idlers, etc. to keep it on, but those are just bandaids, and eventually the outboard edge of the belt is going to wear & fray, and then you'll have a bigger problem.

The fundamental problem is alignment. Make sure that not only your axial alignment is spot on, but all your pulleys are in the same plane vertically, ie they're not cocked somehow. A slightly cocked pulley will throw a belt faster than one which is slightly out axially.

As David and John have mentioned... alignment. It can also be a flexing mounting point that moves when torque is applied. Mounts need to be SOLID.

ok...2 hours of checking and modding..

seems to ok now,(starter motor only)

found 2 problems..alternator was a tiny bit out..and for some reason one of the pulleys was at fault..changed it for another i had (slightly smaller) and all seems ok..

thanks for input, fingers crossed...will let you know what happens upon fire up..
