G'day all

I have myself a '71 effy and was lookin for an in-between engine and my mate (a lexus/toyota fan) has almost talked me into fitting and 1UZ (goin against every Ford bone in my body). so i was just wondering what youse think about a 40 yr F100 having a 1UZ in her. i was lookin at fitting a 5.4L Boss motor out of the GT/XR8.

The '71 F100 came out with a winsor 302 in it so if anyone knows how to set-up mounts for that i might turn it japanese, i think i'm turning japanese. Mind you the engine bay is a swimming pool so space is not an issue.

Anyway any thoughts would be much appreciated
Cheers F-truckie

There's a black 50's(?) F-100 show truck with a 1UZ-FE swap floating around the internet... Can't find it at the moment, I'm sure someone has a link.* GL

Welcome to Lextreme!

While the 1uz is a sweet engine it is only 4 liters. Get a stroker kit and you can go up to 5.2 liters.

For a truck you would need turbo/supercharging.

My advice... build a 351W with a 4" stroker crank 408 cid/6.7L with an overdrive transmission either manual or automatic.

$1000... torque doesn't come much cheaper or more fun.

hope u have around 10 to 15g to fit the 5.4 boss motor
they are still expensive to buy

i have a 44 chev pickup at work with a 1uz
just in process of rewiring the whole lot
whats yr truck weigh
if its up around 1800 to 2 ton u might find it to lack the torque
plus use abit of fuel
i know my hilux does when i load my crap in the back

maybe even go the ls1 way
much cheaper than the ford 5.4

i'm not puttin a LS1 in her
she weighs 1800 odd so it on the limit. when it comes it using fuel the 250 pre-cross flow thats in it chews the juice and only just moves it so thats not an issue. i'm going the 5.4L retrotech eventually thats the master plan anyway

I know wrecker up here in Sydney who has heaps of 3 valve 5.4's.

The 220 kw XT V8 engine.. I would say the Lex engine to be alittle small ??
A healthy 351w with good heads can still pull some healthy reliable and economic power..
An M400 rebuilt with tighter deck clearance, improves compression and "detonation". Works well in F series..
Here's some factory rebuilt engines here..

A 3 valve 5.4 would be a good truck choice BUT for aftermarket cheap support my first suggestion of the stroked 351w stands.

Now, for serious trucking... go with a powerstroke turbodiesel :naughty:

We have had the 3v in our cars for years.. Better induction than truck 3v.. We actually had the 3v first... We where the guinea pigs.. Lol..
Yep all good engine's... EFI would have to be fitted for 3v ..
This should help with torque and economy...

As others have mentioned the torque is not going to be enough for a truck it isn't enough for a 3600lb sc400. More work i know, but have you thought about a powerstroke? Run that thing on waste veggie oil and your fuel is free, minus the cost of setting up a filtering system. I can't believe the torque and pull in 1 ton ford trucks so powerstroke torque in a half ton would be a blast!

p.s. the 7.3 with direct injection, not the 6.0!

A 1UZ with a supercharger at 9 psi of boost is enough to pull most heavy duty trucks with trailer. Even 6-7 psi is still plenty enough.

Don't ever discount the power that can be made from a well sorted turbo diesel engine.. They are not a cheap engine to buy though !!
An old Cat V8 goes well with an S400 turbo bolted to it..
We fitted one to a deep sea charter boat, it actually uses LESS fuel..
