I found a sliver-portion of what appeared to be a pinion gear lobe attached to the magnetic plug.
Hmmmmmmmm.
This was only an eighth of an inch wide by a half inch long, but I wonder what the future now holds for these parts?
Anyone here destroy these parts on their SC400 before?

I don't even do any drag racing, holeshots, or manual shifting, just floor it on the freeway a lot in short bursts.

I would expect the case hardening to start falling off the offending tooth and eventually passing through and chewing out the bearings that will lead to a fairly terminal failure of the diff.

I would plan ahead and buy a replacement diff (complete) and swap it out before your's fails out on the road and you have either a nasty accident or a big towing bill.

It will be chaeper to fix sooner rather than later.
