I have just replaced my belt and need to know if the marks on the belt realign after turning the engine over? My manual on CD says turn the engine over two times TDC to TDC to check if the marks realign. Well, all my cams and crank marks realing appropriately but the belt marks do not. I can not see how just two revs will allow such a long belt to realign all those marks. I think I am ok but just wanted a sanity check.

I also need to buy the special tool to hold the crank while I torque it. Does MAC or Snap-On sell this as well?

Thank you

Meat, What is this special tool that you use to retorque the crankshaft pulley? I am in need of this too so I dont end up sticking a screw driver to hold it while torquing to 181 ft/lb of pressure.
The timing belt marks will not realign after turning the engine over just the pulley marks. However check to make sure your timing belt notches are equal distance from the pulley mark after turning. two notches on the left.. two notches on the right.

Crank Tool

I apologize this reply took so long. I made the tool to hold the crank pulley. I had a piece of rusty flat iron and burned a hole in the center with my oxy/cet torch, enough for my socket to fit, then drilled two holes and bolted a piece of flat iron on as a long handle, enough for the handle to catch on the body or frame while I torque.

Good luck Meat

Oh! I did finish the belt swap, runs great

CRANK Tool

Oh - one other thing, I called Toyota parts and they do not sell tools and gave me the name of a company in Kalifornia that evidently supplies them to the shops. I have yet to catch up with the local MAC or Snapon man to check that source.

the best tool i found which i made myself which is dodgey hehe

get a steel pipe
cut slots at one end about 2inches long so u can slide some old seatbelt into it and use it as an oil filter removing strap

on other end weld an old socket so u can use a ratchet

then put the seat belt strap round the crank pulley and lock the ratchet onto the chassis or similar

i managed to remove very tight pulley with minimal tools stuck at home

heheh
