OBDII Reader

The 1UZFE EGR Delete Kit is available for sale here.
just be wary of bluetooth stuff

i was going to buy a bluetooth scanner for 6000 but they had afew probs

another thing is obd2 on 1uzs started around 1998 i think
so any older 1uzs the unit is useless

anyway i have afew scan tools ranging from 50 bucks to 7grand
if u just want some codes and some live data the cheaper ones sort of work
but nothing is as good as the 7000 dollar scanner

i have about 5 progs that will work with the cheap scantool interfaces
they dont often work perfect but sometimes can help
i never pay for them so if you really know how to find stuff on the net then there is ways to get them hehheehehe

find the diag plug under the dash
if its a rectangular shape with tapered sides then yes
if its a round plug with a flat on the sides then no
i thought ls400s started bout 1992 so wouldnt they be a first gen
anyway with most toyota ecus the ones that are obd2 have 5 plugs on them
and the plugs are not as chunky as the older style

Can anyone confirm that it's '96+ that has obd2?
Is there anyway to check from the engine/ecu numbers?

i have not wired up a 1uz that jas had obd2
so i pressume its 2000 ish onwards
especially on jap imports they went to obd2 very late cause they didnt need to
only reason they went to obd2 cause the usa made it compulsary to have obd2 for a car to be made and sold in usa or imported into usa

See this is where the confusion lies for me , one person will say its '96+, another will say '97+ etc., you've said 2000+.......any one of these could be the case.

That's why I wondered if there is a way to check from the ecu part number or some other way like that?

well from past experience i think if the harness has 5 not 4 or 3 ecu plugs
an d they are smaller thinner terminals then thats the obd2

if the harness older style chunky grey plugs then im assuming its non obd2

why are u so concerned

u can still get live data with the older style u just need the dcl3 plug wired into the harness

another thing is its all good being able ttto read live datta but i find even half the mechanics dont really know what to do with the data they are reading

a good old test light and multimeter is yr best friend

Just researching, was looking at using a scangaugeII in my car, so was just trying to tell which engine I should be looking out for.

ive gpot a cheap 50 dollar code reader
and a cheap 150 dollar scanner
they are very average but i guess will show u the basics

the good ones are over 5 grand but only really needed if u use it on multiple cars

if u want to use it just on a 1uz then dont waste yr money
if you want to use it on a factory car with everything standard and u want to read things like abs and air bags etc etc then u need an expensive one

ive even played with pc based obd2 software and its sort of ok sometimes
othertimes its a pain to set up
took me 4 different programs to get my nissan consult cbale to work on a nissan

anyway best thing to do is test first before u buy as every scanner has pros and cons depending what car so some work good one some cars and some work good on others

I have a 2001 model JDM motor not a 1UZ though and it does not have OBD2 compliance even though it has a socket for OBD2. I would expect OBD2 to be on exported models though
