There's an accurate fuel consumption gauge called Ultra Gauge that plugs into the OBDII port and Ive been told by Ultra Gauge that their gauge needs J1850 or ISO9141 protocols to work. Does anybody know what OBDII protocols the '98 LS400 uses ?

Pin 2 - J1850 Bus+
Pin 4 - Chassis Ground
Pin 5 - Signal Ground
Pin 6 - CAN High (J-2284)
Pin 7 - ISO 9141-2 K Line
Pin 10 - J1850 Bus
Pin 14 - CAN Low (J-2284)
Pin 15 - ISO 9141-2 L Line
Pin 16 - Battery Power

found this on google so if u can find the diag plug wiring u might be able to figure it out
i know 1998 2j vvti obd2 plug has this
pin 16 is batt common
pin 4 and 5 is ground common
7 is sil wire which i think its data
pin 13 is tc which u ground to get engine check light to flash

i know toyota uses k line so if u look at pin 7 above its the iso 9141

but alot of these tools are buyer beware
half the laptop software i have tried does not work properly on toyotas
i had an elm obd2 device and using some software it half worked or didnt work at all
even though if toyota does use iso 9141 i would ask the manufacturer first and ask for refund if it doesnt work
i have specific usb to obd2 cables purely for toyotas and ive tried them on holdens and
they dont work

Hi sideshow... well if your showing J1850 and ISO9141 in pins 2,7 & 15
surely that's gotta be a step in the right direction.... Ive emailed your pin diagram to Ultra Gauge to see what they make of it.
However, each day goes by i like the MPGuini because it taps straight into one injector wire and a VSS wire..... just having trouble getting one....

Not sure if your still alive... Ive resently purchased a MemoScan T605 code reader/scanner thingy from Amazon $170
It tells me my '98 LS400 is without CAN BUS and using KWP2000 protocol. My OBDII outlet is 5 wires 4,7,9,13,16 and the American '98 LS is 4,5,7,16 god only knows why.... Oh yeah, the reason for my intrusion is have you heard of Volo flash chips ? They claim these 'digitally tune your ECU using your OBDII port'. 10+% hp gains...

these chips are just like +100% dick enlargement pills and things from TV shop.

Late LS400's /UCF20's use k-line, mini-vci diagnostic cable is available at some $50, search ebay.

Diagnose your engine =)

You would need toyota techstream software, but chinese cable already have this on the cd included

Sorry George, pardon my ignorance but i have no idea of this cable your talking about. and cable to what ?... Is it some kind of code reader/scanner ? Can you post a photo ?

Would it be considered as an advert? First try searching ebay for "toyota mini vci". It's an adapter between a PC running windows and car's obd2 port. Software is included

Yes it already helped me in many ways. Tried it with JZS155, JZS160, late JZX100, RCH41 etc etc.... Also worked well with late UCF21 and early LS430

I doubt that ipad would run it...software is windows only. And cable needs usb port.

you can still use desktop pc with this, a bit bulky but works
