does anyone know w5* rf150 equiv codes for hiluxs? I am about to start a 98 single cab diesel with g/box code g50, what is its equiv? is it a w5* series or is it the smaller celica style?

I say similar because I don't know the length of the input shaft on the G5x compared to the W5x, but on all reports they use the same bellhousing pattern.

I know the R150F input shaft is 30mm shorter than R154 ones.

Oh, and by W5x I mean W55/56/57/58/59. (All alloy)
The W50 is a completely different box (5 speed version of the W40) (steel centre case)

Thanks peewee, that was what I kinda gathered, hiluxmad, its a 4wd, the one I did before was a 2wd, there is a thread on it, the 4wd belongs to a mate an Im doing the conversion for him on the cheap with intention of a doing a few more when word gets around, so far everyone thats driven/seen my 2wd thinks its great, thanks for your quick replies guys...

hi lex im using a land cruiser box and transfer been told they will handle the power no probs hilux boxes apparently arent that strong. they are almost identical in size.

R150F is huge compared to the G5x, and probably triple the price.
But it is a **** load stronger.

Doesn't look like much until you try and install an R15x into a transmission tunnel made for the W5x/G5x

Thanks again peewee, I think the standard box will be ok as the owner is a lot softer on cars than me, there are such varying answers to how strong these boxes are, CRS have been putting W5* boxes behind lots of stuff for years with a lot of success and lets face it burnouts and flat changes into 2nd will kill any box. gee I luv this forum ,no flamin hassles and no wangers, thanks again for helpin out

Hello

Peewee -or anyone else, do you know how the W and R series boxes compare to the Van boxes. The standard van petrol (Y and RZ) and the diesel (L) boxes have the same bolt pattern as a LN61 hilux surf so it seems close to a W but unsure. There seems to be a bigger bolt pattern (1KZ-TE) 3 litre turbo diesel. Any experience with these? Does anyone have some diagrams of the bellhousing to gearbox patterns with measurements? Cheers Kelvin

You'd need to get a photo or the box code.

Both Y and L motor's have come with W5x's in the past, as the bellhousings exist.

The box you have is likely to be the R150 or R151 which isn't much different in size to the original Hilux box, G52 or whatever (early Lux 4 speeds were smaller).
These R series boxes came in 1985+ 2.4L Turbo Diesel Bunderas and recently 78 and 100 series non turbo diesel Landcruisers, and mate up to the split transfer case.
The rest of the Landcruisers since the mid eighties run the H15# series boxes, a physically much larger box that I'm not sure could be squeezed under a Hilux tunnel, tho I think I read about 1 or 2 in the past- must've had a bit of body lift and some surgery maybe.
The R series mentioned above have also been factory fitted to some mid eighties turbo Hilux's (LN65's), Surf's, V6 4runners, 1998+ Hilux SR5 turbo diesels and V6's and V6 Prado's so floorpan clearance isn't a drama.
