Ok guys it is time to go newer so I am trying to see if I can start and run properly a 1uz vvti 1998 99 jdm engine
I have one in mind the price is not bad so will get that out of the way
Two problems I can see
1- the engine does not use cable throttle so we need way around that
2- it seems that it will not even start without the original key due to some security system so we need to foul the system as well
So let see if they are any other problems more than listed above
We will keep in mind that we will use the original ecu and the vvti option
So any one tried this swap any solutions?

u have to run fly by wire pedal
and if it has security u have to run the matching immobiliser ecu and key reader and key
from all info i have there is noooooo way around this

so never ever buy a vvti engine alone
buy a complete front cut

otherwise just go motec or something that can run twin vvti

98 99 they might not have security
there are afew wires on ecu that goto immobiliser ecu
so if i looked at a harnessi could tell u if it has security or not

anyway ive never seen a 1uz vvti run on std ecu in a conversion in my 10 years of doing wiring in australia
mind u not many come into the country

Well I can get the full half cut easily here in Dubai but I will not be able to see the ecu til I take the wiring apart
Is there any way to tell like from ecu
number or car model?
Or how the look of the harness ?

nope i dont bother looking at part numbers on ecu
doesnt matter cause if u have the front cut u have all the gear to get it running

one way is if u remove the platis round the steering column and key area
if there is a black plastic thing surround the ignition barrel with afew wires on it then that could be the key reader

anyway maybe get model and year and ring toyota
i know around 2000 is when they got security in japanese cars
u might be lucky

Ok that sounds easy
I also have a friend who works as a key smith and told me he can tell if the car has a security ign key by looking at the key itself
On the other hand I read some other post on this site says that cable throttle will not operate the throttle fully and also that the ecu needs to see the throttle sensor or throttle motor not only the TP to manage running the engine

yes if u do plan to run aftermarket ecu u need to do some mods to the cable throttle setup

but the std factory ecu has to runt he fly by wire setup exactly how it runs in a factory car
there is no way round this if u want to run std ecu

im just in the process of wiring up my ute 2000 hilux 2wd

running the new link g4 storm witch is suppose to run full vvti on both sides

i have already modded the throttle and put the standard cable onto it as seen in the pic

thanks ed_ma61 will continue wiring tomoro

got all the coils wired up today and the injectors cam/ crank angle sensors
any1 no if there is a idle speed steper motor on these motors
cheers 4 the firing order sideshow

i didnt give the firing order

anyway there is no idle motor as most fly by wire setups the idle is adjusted by the butterfly which is controlled by the ecu
