When custom fabbing stuff, what are some of the basic rules on lock tite? If I had a steel bolt that was threaded into an aluminum piece, say a flywheel, should I use lock tite? I'm assuming that with the two metals expanding at different rates, the steel bolt is going to make it's way out sooner or later. Is that a valid concern?

i use a lot of locktite on my motorcycles basicly on anything has a lot of vibration that wont need be basic maintenance. they make locktite that isnt permanant but still holds for the racers that have more chances of breaking and needing to replace parts.

red loc tite will come off no prob if you can heat up the nut/bolt. When I rebuilt my engine I went thru 2 full tubes just to be safe. I R/R'd my cams quite a few times before trying a thread locker and never had thermal expansion issues. I'm talking about the steel cam cap bolts and aluminum threads. Flywheel would be fun to R/R because you forgot the loc tite tho!
