i am considering changing back to auto from a supra 5 speed in search of reliability. i have a 1uz with a m112 blower making around the 420bhp mark and i think the 5speed is just starting to cry enough. i know you are all probably going to say get a r154 but have been looking for a while now and they are like rocking horse sh#t. so my question is will the factory v8 trans take this kind of power ?

Well it more torque ie twisting force which kills gearboxes. With your SC giving you a lot more torque than standard you will be killing an auto in no time as well. If you put in the correct gearbox for your use the first time you will save time and money.

nah just the w55, but i must say it has done me well over the last 2-3 years, ( just one year with the blower ) so cant really complain too much. and it would probably keep going for a few more but who knows?? and yeah i did see that r154 for sale, but for that sort of money i would have to keep it very quiet from her indoors if you know what i mean.

Yeah well if it isnt broke... we in NZ seem to have a lot more luck with gearboxes than most. I say keep your peepers open for a reasonably priced R154 or R151 box and look at a new housing to suit. Whats the V8 in by the way?

got the 8 in a 1980 commodore, as in my pic, just looks a little different now as the blower is thru the bonnet , will be taking it back out to ruapuna on the 29th to have a bit of fun. just need a pair of dot slicks.

Dellow have a bellhousing for Powerglide..
Have you tried talking to auto specialist ??
Higher line pressure and BIG trans cooler will help on std auto...

have thought about other autos, powerglides etc but im going to try the factory trans along with a Powertrain Control Solutions Automatic Transmission Controller. i think all i will do is once i find a good auto to start with then have it looked over by an auto specialist and fit the biggest cooler i can fit in my car and then see how it goes.

have you looked into other trans options, ive seen a ford C4 on a toyo V8 and they are really good, people use them in drag racing(upgreaded a bit) so they should hold well and they have torke converters for stock toyo trans on the Lextreme sales area so after exchange rate that might be to expensive but you never know cos they have 5 year grantee.

cheers

This is typing/computer **** is pissing me off this the 3rd time i writing this i wonder if it will work this time????

v8commy, a modified Toyota auto should have no problem with the power you got, my 1UZ/HE112 combo is putting out around 300rwhp,the Toyota Crown box was rebuilt/modified by MV Automatics 9 months ago, has been driven hard every day(daily driver) used in 4 or 5 burnout comps & a fair bit of late night unofficial time trails if you know what i mean (only official timed run was using a completly stock box).
I just had the oppertunity to get MV Autos to strip & inspect my box with Micheal reporting back that all the internals look like brand new, which i was impressed to hear.
