Gents: I certainly am not trying to get in on a "war" here, but I have been following this thread for a while, and I feel I can contribute by commenting, so here goes...
Jibby, I see your points about the late model LS platform, and also your comments on the 1UZ...But IMHO, I do not understand your attempt at a direct comparison...As stated earlier in one of the posts in this thread, the LS has significantly more displacement than the 1UZ. That in and of itself lends to the argument that to get to the same level of output, the 1UZ would have to be boosted...you are discussing 4.0 vs 5.7? come on....
I do not think that is the point here. The 1UZ is an amazing piece of engineering, and we are talking about engines that are what, 15 years old in some cases? Even your engine is approximately that old, in your own words...I believe you also stated that you did not start boosting that engine until it was around 70k miles, and how many years old? Also, how many upgrades to the engine did you make when you bolted on the Juice? You, yourself clearly state that you abuse the engine practically daily...Seems to be doing pretty well for the thrashing you give that engine.
My point is, take a 1UZ, and a LS and compare them if the 1UZ is built to handle the boost, take them both as if new, producing the same HP and TQ, and then see which one holds out...That is the only way to prove your argument, IMHO...
BTW, you questioned how long a 400 HP 1UZ would last, in fact i believe you stated that your opinion was they would not last long compared to the LS engine...I am just wondering what info you are basing this on? Where is your data? Because I do not see any at all...I do see lots of presumption on your part...First of all, consider this, look at the list of boosted 1UZ's that Lextreme has in the registration on this site, there are only a handful, and from my recollection, most of them are supercharged, not Turboed. Regardless of the type of boost, have you collected data from this handful of people to support your claims? If you haven't, how can you accurately make your statements? This means they are pure conjecture, on your part...And my point is to make this clear, because as stated earlier in this thread, some Noob or other that is not familiar with this engine may get the wrong idea...Perhaps that the 1UZ is an inferior engine...and that simply is not true. You should know, and I believe you do, that to add boost to any NA engine properly, is to make sure it is built to handle it...period. Taking an old engine, with years, miles and normal wear and tear and add boost or juice to it wothout doing a significant overhaul at minimum, is aking for trouble, be it a 1UZ or an LS platform. Gaskets, seals and parts get old and worn, so to expect extreme performance past 100k miles is not realistic, IMHO.
Now, I have no problem with you dropping a LS into your SC...go for it if you want...it is your car...But claiming the 1UZ is a crap of an engine....well, I gotta disagree...BTW, to get a 1UZ to 400 WHP does not require that much boost...Look at what Chrisman and Bob were able to acheive on their project, and that was with minimal tuning, long pipes, old and used, very small, unmatched turbos...and yet they got to 400 WHP at 3800 RPM at 17 lbs of boost. They peaked at 510 WHP at 17 lbs of boost. So, what would happen with some larger BB turbos that are matched, well designed headers, and proper tuning? Some food for thought...I should know in less than 2 months, and will certainly pass on the data. I also have a friend, a very good friend with an 07 C6 Vette...I will make a video of us racing each other on the strip, or street, so we can see...BTW, I will be putting out much more than 500 WHP, and my engine will be built to handle it, as well as the drivetrain and everything else.
Jibby, no harm intended to you, but man, you are making a lot of claims as fact, and I cannot just sit by idly and say nothing, when in fact, most of your statements are based upon presumption, and your own opinions...
If you are going to make such verbose claims, especially on this website, be prepared to back them up, or expect alot of the very knowledgeable guys on this site to shred you to pieces...
