Hi guys, first post :)

Iam very seriously considering a power upgade on a Celica Supra for a street/club car.
I have always though I would go for the 2jzgte, but the 1uzfe is an awsome engine as well and it would be silly to not consider it.
The first question is will the 1uzfe fit? and if so, would it be a better engine anyway?

To adress the "better engine question"

Please tell us more, like what´s your:

budget?
mech knowhow?
hp goal?

1uzfe will fit not a problem.

I will have some mounts ready in a couple of weeks to bolt it in if you like.

Stock for stock, 2jzgte will win. Cheap mod wise, 2jz will win, spend 5-10k on each for performance upgrades alone, and I beleive the 1uz will come out on top.

Ive got the will (backyard mechanic skill level),and my father has the way (mechanic).
$$$ wise Im not going to (planning to) spend more than around $5000 in engine mods, this will likely include a supercharger or turbo setup. The car will run the unmodified engine for about a year to start with though.
As for HP goal I don't yet have one but I figure 380+hp is realistic and although that figure wont have me winning all my carclub events it will be plenty fun to start with :)

The 1UZ is N/a buying engine + turbo/supercharger system and conversion details sounds a little tight on a $5000 budget (not much room for errors) but given that you go Twin turbo and buy small turbos - There´s a LOT of them that only collecting dust on shelfs where the owner has replaced them with bigger turbos = cheap. (Regarding performance, this is the best conversion, but also the most technically demanding)

A 2JZ-GTE is close to $5000 but already has all the goodies that you looking for, a BPU should give you ~450 crank hp. Aftermarket is crawling with performance upgrades for later on.. (this is the easyest and maby the most sensible swap IMHO)

Another popular swap is 1.5JZ-GTE wich means your 1jz heads on a 2jz bottom, a shortblock from toyota shouldn´t be so expensive, but than again, we also must purchase turbo/supercharger. (coolest swap on your car IMHO)

I was thinking of $5000 for performance mods after the engine has been fitted. Because the 1uzfe is much cheaper I could spend this much, but the 2jzgte is big $$$ and the actual mods to the engine would have to be cheaper.

Im hoping the entire conversion would cost around the $8000 mark, but will allow $10000 as we all know thats is what I'll probably need on a $8000 budjet :)

Well, an 1uz should be just fine then!

There seems to be a lot of upgraded EVO:s and Imprezas in Australia, wich means plenty of nice 250-300hk unused turbochargers on various shelfs there that would be very nice on a twin-turbo 1uz!

Or you can use that twin for the 2JZ as well. I seen people borrow turbo from ca18det B4.

I like the idea if twin turbo 1uz more. coz people will Oou ...Ah when see that monster V8 with two turbo. Unless there is not enough space in the engine bay then 2JZ will be better candidate.

If your power goals are 500whp or less and your budget is thin then the 1uz-fe would be the choice...Reason being the V8 lowend torque of the 1uz's is not matched by the 2JZ's...

If your power goals are more then 500whp then you can't go wrong with the 2JZ's.. An awesome inline six banger motor that flows wonderfully with turbo applications and is stock built to handle as much as 1300hp as proven in the last Supra I recently saw....

I love bringing up these blasts from the past threads...

A 2JZ pushing 1300hp is an engine doing its absolutley last breaths, ok it is good strong engine, but pushing things to those levls is only for the dynoqueens and with just about any standard engine we are talking about a lot of mods to get there.

Tell that to guy named Joel whom is running 1300hp out of his 95 Supra in combination with a huge turbo and 250 wet nitrous shot.... He has not blown his stock 2jz yet and has run 8 seconds in the quarter more then once... Dyno queen or not his Supra is sick and hauls arse....
