Hello

I am currently putting a CS400 Soarer motor into a '72 HQ Holden. I have the original wiring harness and computer and I am wondering what wires to connect to HQ ignition?? Also, can I use the hydrolic cooling fan pump for the power steering??
Cheers Craig

There's a bit more to it then hooking up a few wires mate. Search the tech documents on this site for the ecu wiring diagrams and then decide whether you want to attempt it yourself or get a wiring specialist to do it.

I wouldn't recommend using the fan pump for power steering, especially when there should be a perfectly good PS pump bolted to the engine just above the PS Box in the HQ.

Any other Q's on this conversion? I have recently done the same job on a HZ tonner. There is a lot of fabrication involved.

was able to get sump and engine brackets from castlemaine rod shop so made putting the engine in pretty easy.had to take original soarer power steering pump off to fit it in .just got cd rom with all the wiring diagrams on it so i ll see what i can make of it .cheers, craig

Where is the alternator mounted on your soarer engine. I had to remount the alternator to fit the engine, it was in the way of the steering box. PS pump is in a perfect spot just above the steering box on a Celsior/Crown engine.

How did you mount the auto?(or are you using a manual trans).

the alternator and power steering must be in opposite spots on the crown and soara, the alt just misses the steering box.have the soara auto box, adaptor plate from castle maine rod shop for gearbox mount, uses holden gearbox rubber mount.

any pics available?

i have seen a 1UZ in a Holden kingswood ute or one tonner(cant remeber)
it was running a W series 5 speed and i doubt it has aircon or P/S it was an LS400 engine is all i remember and it went well according to the owner.

I got the same adaptor from CRS. It adapts the gearbox to the holden mount but that doesn't mean the box will fit in the car. It actually would have been half in the cabin if you bolted it to the std crossmember. I fabbed a new centre section for the crossmember using some folded C channel to allow the box to drop down.

Pics of mine or Craigs, Deankdx?

is the soarer a rear mount sump or front mount? i remember them being rear...

if it's a front sump Craig, and you still have it, i'd be willing to buy it off you.

you're in WA too so that's a bonus.

thanks for the pics, i was thinking maybe a smaller rubber mount would be easier? but i can do a similar Mod to My crossmember as you have there, probably just as Much work(something to think about Very soon)

Rear sumps

G`day, as I am new at working with the Tojo V8 donk I am fitting one from a crown saloon to a vehicle with a HQ front end I believe from the posts that I require a rear sump set up. As I have contacted the CR Shop they quoted me $770 for a sump and pick up. Could you inform me what else is required as this does not include the dipstick, also if there is another vendor that may be able to help or do you know of any one with a rear sump set up.
Cheer

I know I got pretty lucky, but I bought a rear sump setup off of a member here for $200 that came with dipstick, pickup, oil level sensor etc, and Im selling my front sump setup to another member for the same price.

I know there are many others on this site trying to find rear sumps, but you could possibly save yourself $500 by being vigilant!

You could also try a wreckers in the states - try a parts search site like:
www.partrequest.com/used_toyota_parts.htm
www.uneedapart.com/used-toyota-parts.php
and make them to do the work for you.

the factory rear sump is only 75mm further back than the crown mid sump and wont fit the hq ,thats why craig used the crs one, its only just usable with mods to fit into a hilux

does anyone know if the conversion kits available for the HQ's and the crown 1uz need a hole cut in the bonnet for the manifold?
