Here's a question , is the Lexus power steering pump good enough for the heavy weight of a 4WD , the Lexus pump usually operates a rack and pinion but I'm using a big clunky steering box . I'm thinking of getting the matching Mitsi pump and installing it in place of the 1UZ one , or am I wasting my time ?

Tried 1UZ's factory pump (vvti and non-vvti) with a variety of offroaders (W463 as an example) and 4x4 vans , performance is quite acceptable. All of the cars mentioned ran a steering box. My own daily driver runs 1uz vvti , it's not an offroader but it does have a steering box. I would say steering effort is slightly higher than it was with factory pump

Yeah it's early days yet , have only done a couple of test drives , I think there's still a bit of air in the system . I'll see how it goes and maybe upgrade it later. Thanks mate for the info.

I run 12.5x35x15 tyres on 10"rims on Nissan Patrol axle in a Range Rover and I can steer with one finger.

The pump has been on the car for 8 years without any problems.
