Anyone here in OZ done the conversion? I am seriously thinking about it for my 11/1998 hiace lwb. I know Pat Gardiner in Moree does the comm V6. but i would rather go the Whole hog so to speak. Any idea, swhere to start?Cheers

I say go for it, its a big job but defiantly a worthy transplant in the end... There's abit of literature on these forums which will start you off in the right direction..

There is one or 2 on this forum i think?
But in japan i have been told that the ambulance there was a 1uz powered hiace,
so its doable for sure.

I have supplied parts for 6 hiace vans per year for the last 3 years and had one myself. They are an awesome conversion. Search hiace and you will find some links. I sell mounts in NZ for the job. Be careful about the Ambulance as they had wider chassis rails. Cheers

v6 into a hiace or even hilux is pissweak
dont know how the fk he sells so many kits for v6's
go get a vn and put a trailer on the back then road test it
that is how a hiace or hilux will feel like with a v6

anyway its like any conversion
long and tedious and expensive
i would say on a scale of most converisons is close to hard
main thing with the 1uz in a hiace is its doable
but tight on the sides i mean very tight bout a finger or 2 gap
watch out for the torsion bars getting in the way
need to use log manifolds
and its a compramise on the height u fit the engine
raise engine up so it doesnt hang too low and u hit the seat
so means modifying seat or inlet manifold
lower engine low so it clears the seat and u run into probs where the sump sits so low
u have to be careful u dont hit things on the road
another thing is one we worked on had overheating probs
we removed cover that sits at back of firewall that lets air into cabin and car ran so cool
put cover back on and it got hot so make sure yr radiator is big and has good capacity

but like gloverman said its good conversion
if u have the money and will to do it then its easy

You'll need a post 1998 engine to do the swap as you can't use an engine that's older than the vehicle.

Yeah for sure , after about 10 month of on and off working on it (not to mention all the issues Ive run into) Ive finally completed mine (I say this in a general term, still afew bits to be tidied up) , Still havent got certification and its fouling up plugs like you wouldnt believe but its getting there lol. Lextreme is a huge help for any 1uz project I reckon!
