I plan on putting a 96 SC400 transmission into my 95 SC400, anything I should be aware of?

Does anyone know if the AWShifting or Suprastick units are still available? I've emailed both with no response.

Does anyone know what specific mods are done to the valve body for a shift kit? I know how to adjust the base line pressure and shimming the accumulators is easy enough. I've read that enlarging a few holes in the seporator plate can also be done but have no idea where to drill.

Thanks,

KC

The 1995 to 1997 transmissions are the same. You shouldn't have any issue with a 1996 tranny at all. I would contact John from IPT for VB upgrade.

Ok, here's the problem I have with shift kits - please correct me if I'm wrong here.

It costs what, like $700 to have it done?

What is done?

1. Accumulator springs are upgraded. Anyone can simply add shims and get the same affect.

2. Line pressure is raised. Anyone can do this by turning the adjustment screw on the valve body. The valve body doesn't even need to be removed.

3. They enlarge a couple of holes in the gaskets and the plate. This is where knowledge is needed.

The customer needs to do 95% of the work to have a shift kit done. Customer needs to remove the valve body send it off and then reinstall the valve body. Seems to me that $700 dollars is a bit excessive for upgraded springs and the job itself. Probably takes like an hour to disassemble the valve body, drill out a few holes and put it back together.

Am I wrong? Is there more to it?

I know what is really being paid for is the knowledge but still, the price just seems way to high to me. I would expect to pay that much if they were doing ALL of the work, removing and reinstalling and everything.

Hmmmm I guess.... my price is different... call up IPT and ask for John and tell him you are referraled from here.

Thanks Lex, I'll look into it if the trans I'm putting in doesn't fix the problem. I'll even have a spare valve body.

On TIS (Toyota Information System), if you search 96 SC400 and look at the new car features, there is a VERY breif statment about the transmission. Not very specific at all, just says the transmission is slightly modified to improve shift timing. So, I'm hopeful.

AW shifters

AW Shifting's website says he is going out of business.
Google "AW Shifters" for info on what else is out there.

oLD tHREAD but let me ask

Guys,
Let me ask this will a 1995 SC4 trans. work in a 1992 sc400. If I change the gear selector switch, and the sensors, could the sc4 ecu work the 1995 trans.

Regards
Bart
