Strange box in left rear trunk

Does anyone know what the small black box in the left rear trunk behind the panels is for? I think its a telephone tranciever and i know their is a speaker relay on top of it. Everything seems to work fine without it but that might just be because I dont use the mobile phone and I rewired my whole stereo. I wanna take it out to save some weight but wanna make sure its not connected to anything else I need.
