whats the rev limit for a 2uzfe engine before the oil pump fails i wana stay safe.. already got cams installed etc..

is it ok to go to 7k rpm ?

The worry is the rods. Stock rods are NOT strong enough for high RPM operation. Never heard of an RPM related oil pump failure on this engine family.

We know of one 1UZ VVTi revving to 9,500!

It spun a bearing but the oil pump is fine.

Looks like side clearances on the rods were too tight.

I have seen oil pumps fail on various engines with comparable oil pumps, like RB's and JZ engines.

What is the theory on the failures? To much pressure? Harmonics?
What is the material? Powdered metal?

There would seem to be a limited amount of stress on the pump unless something caused a restriction or debris was ingested.

Here is video demonstrating the action of a gear pump in an SR20 engine.

Initial searching of "why oil pump fails" didn't turn up any solid engineering responses but had a number of responses pointing to the harmonic balancer. Changing the engines weights and components will alter its harmonic resonances and could certainly contribute if not outright cause failure in this tight clearanced component (gerotor oil pump).
Here is a honda-tech board discussion

Here is a simple image. The assembly would have tight fitting walls on either side with an intake port just to the top left and outlet to the top right. Notice as the rotation begins at the top the area goes from nothing to expanding this draws in the fluid being pumped. The opposite happens as the rotation continues and the area gets smaller hence moving the fluid. If the speed of rotation moves the fluid faster than whatever is receiving the fluid can flow there will be a pressure increase.

I also think it has to do mainly with harmonic balances, however I exploded a 2jz pump on a stock 2jz shortblock. Stock everything (on the shortblock)

A few Detroit engines have had oil pump issues,,
Main suspect was the metal quality of the gears..
Our XR6T's and 5.4 Boss Ford V8's had issues with big rpm..
Two totally different engines but I suspect same supplier ??
Parts come from all over the world these days..
Some tries cryo treating them while other machine shops made there own
with a CNC machine using better material / alloys..
It seems a harmonic problem. Due to high powered forced induction engines pulling low rpm [std rpm limit] didn't seem to have an oil pump issue..
We have an engine failure due to oil pump in a 2.4 Nissan diesel due to faulty oil pump drive spline.. Simply wasn't one !!
