questions about vvit/tvis

hey
i was just wondering what years of the ls400 were available with tvis or vvit
i'm guessing that it starts around 95-97?
if someone could point me in the right direction i'de appreciate it.
i'm actually looking for more info on the stock engine.
wanting to do a swap much like a couple of buds and need to decide on an engine to pick up and start with

also i have so many questions on why the hp on the different generations are different.. from 90-94, 95-97, 98-2000.. and they're all the 1uz
i'm thinking to get my donor from an ls
i figure that the difference is just refinements in the engine but i'de like to know what refinements..

90-94 were the early ones (der)
95-97 got a 0.4:1 increase in c/r, and two of the cams were slightly larger (not sure if intake or exhaust), so thats why they have a tad more power.
98-00 got another 0.1:1 increase in c/r, got better cams, vvti, flybywire throttle, better heads, some form of ACIS or TVIS (not sure what the called it on the 1UZ though).

so then it's a better head design for the stage 4 1uz?

now the decision time..
cause i'de like to use the stage 4 1uz but i'm going to be real honest for a minute.. it's not very pretty when i open my hood.. i cant believe i just said that.. but yeah.. is it possible to use the other manifold?
actually forget it.. so far i've only been able to find the early 1uz's i'll try to hold out for the ones with the bigger valves and cams but if i dont find them i'm sure that the 200 some odd power in the early 1uz will be more than sufficient for the time being..
any more info woudl be greatly appreciated.. i'm lookin for as much as i can find but the more i read, the more questions i have..
