Buoyed up by the enthusiasm shown on this site I went and bought two Lexus LS 400 V8s plus auto boxes and ECU's at the weekend finally finding three wrecked LS400 and one LS 430 VVTi in the same scrapyard after 5 months of looking. ( I was a fly's knacker away from importing two LS 400's from Japan)
I was going to buy three units but one was badly damaged and needed a new cam pulley so I declined. The VVTi scared me to death, maybe next time. One engine has done 56,000 miles ( from service book still in the car) and the other 67,000 miles so at £2,000 for both inc gearbox and everything to run them I think I got a bargain !! My single V8 Beemer lump and box cost me more than the two Lexi.!
Anyway, this coming weekend I will be taking one engine to the Cobra Kit manufacturers to get the chassis custom made to fit the Lexus engine. Unfortunately it appears that oil filter will foul a chassis rail in the kit. I have done a search on the site and have found that a remote oil filter kit is an option. Can you tell me where can I get two? Also, I remember a thread where someone used a smaller oil filter off another Toyota, can anyone refresh my memory as to the details?
There is a further problem in that both engines have what looks like an oil cooler plumbed into the water system between the filter and the "bracket" coming out of the block. Can the remote filter system simply bolt up to the existing bracket or is it fitted to the block. If its the latter I would lose my water actuated oil cooler. Any ideas?
