I'm thinking of swaping a UZFE into my 1989 Montero 4x4. It apprears to have a Toyota A44DL transmission in it from what information I have gathered. Can anyone tell me if the bolt pattern for the existing transmission matches the UZFE engine? I don't know if the Montero has a special case with Toyota guts or it is 100% Toyota, case and all. Any info will be appreaciated!

The Toyota engine appears in lots of 4b's around the world.

I would expect the Toyota bellhousing to bolt to the transmission case without any problem.

I guess you would need to dismantle the box (that is split the bell and trans) and see if the bolt pattern is the same.

That's what I'm hearing on the Mitsubishi board I posted the same basic question on. That being the case, can anyone tell me what I will have to deal with in terms of the engine computer and the non-electric A44D transmission?

My guess would be the Toyota ECU should run the 'bitshi trans but I don't know where you would find out for sure.

I have the option to buy a 1988 2 door Montero for almost nothing...I would love to swap in the 1uz-fe motor...Did you ever do the swap? Do you have any usefull tip you can give me... This 1988 Montero currently has the stock 4 banger sitting under the hood... Is it a doable swap?

I just think it would be a kick arse swap because of the weight and size of this Montero... Throw a decent 1uz-fe motor in it, lift supension, mudder tires, and I believe it would be an off road monster... Any thoughts?

Still dreaming

No, I haven't done anything about it. My Montero just sits by the shop begging for attention. I took a job that requires 180 mile per day commute and now I am thinking about putting a turbo diesel in it. But I just don't have much time to spend doing it now.

Sorry for not being any help!

Jeff

Any updates on this? I'm looking a purchasing an '89 Dodge Raider and am looking at possible engine swaps, and keeping the existing A/T and drivetrain would make it so much easier.
