modifing Ls 400

The 1UZFE EGR Delete Kit is available for sale here.
whats the best bang for my buck.

it is bone stock as of right now

What year LS?

What is your goal?

Budget?

Off hand I would say torque converter followed by headers. You could possibly retrofit the gears and LSD from inside a Supra non-turbo with ratio over 4-1. The usual Supra turbo automatic LSD has 3.769 gears which would not be much of an improvement from your 3.62 ratio.

If you want substantially more you are looking at nitrous, supercharger or turbocharger.

Best mods for the buck...

Ebay for high flowing mufflers and high flowing cats, BFI intake...Lextreme for torque converter change..... That should get you started and shouldn't break the bank.....

sounds like a great way to go down to the road of getting 12mpg city and 16mpg highway

Threm buddy - What's wrong with 12mpg city and 16mpg highway if you're making over 300whp with boost? Is there another way to get that kind of power without the gas consumption?

Maybe a switch to turn off and on the supercharger on demand or and nitrous load...Then again nitrous bottle refills are like eighty bucks a pop but they do last a while atleast........Supercharger with an on off switch like madmax, but is that even doable with ECU confliction, etc???

hes talking about what low rear-end gearing and a high stall TC will do to overall gas MPG......1st gen LS wasnt that frugal in the first place...

The question asked was "best bang for the buck".

Do you disagree with my suggestions?

My actual recommendation was converter and headers. With the lock-up clutch in these converters hwy mileage should not be effected. Headers will actually improve mileage if designed correctly.

From there you are looking at limited choices and hence the gearing options.

John - Torque converters and headers really aren't your cheapest mods but do make a big difference...

The BFI intake for starters is free and could yeild some power gains...The rest of the stock exhaust system outside the headers is a much cheaper way to modify the exhaust and experience power gains.. An entire upgrade of the stock exhaust system except for the headers should yeild close to the same gains as a aftermarket header application.....

I am talking about deleting all the cats, installing 2.25" madrel exhaust piping thru out, high flowing X member, highflowing mufflers.. Just my two cents..

Starting with that should keep you around $500-$700.. Headers and T.C. will set you well into the thousand dollar range... These two mods are very effective though and should be considered further on down the road when your budget can accomadate.....
