Hey all, have done a search on using head gasket thickness to reduce static comp and would just like someone to double check my numbers.

We're using a front sump engine, so Im pretty sure is from a soarer. Static comp for this engine is 10:1.

Standard head gasket thickness is 0.051" (1.295mm)

I read here http://www.lextreme.com/decompression.htm that lowering comp can be achieved by using thicker head gaskets - approx 1 static point per .025" (.635mm). Therefore going .025" thinner should pick up one static point.

So... If I drop from a .051" gasket to .026" it should be up to 11:1 comp.

Obviously the maths is right, but if anyone has experience with thinner gaskets I'd welcome your input!

Questions: 1 - will this have a major effect on cam timing? or not enough to make a difference.
2: will this make a big difference to getting the intake port lined up to intake mani?
3: what possible probs have I missed!?!?!!?

Cheers for any help!

1) Soarers are rear-sump but I'm just being pedantic : )
So mine is a crown then. Hmmm... need to re-do that search again!
