how to tell 95-97 from 90-94

Is there a number on the engine that can be cross referenced or something else so once can verify the 95-97 engine with 10.4 compression, sequential injection, and 30 extra hp? If one might go fi at a later point would they want to stay away from the higher compression motor? Here is an example on ebay which the guy first listed as a 99 but i told him it wasn't. He then listed it as a 93. I think it is a 97 or so b/c it looks cleaner and has the plastic cover over the intake manifold like the 97' sc400 i drove before i bought the 92. There has to be a way to verify the year on the engine, right?

this engine hasn't turned for at least 2 years, just by looking at the dust on it.

I'm pretty sure I see billet fuel rails, not cast.

Which would make it an early motor.

I think I can also see the CSI fuel line, so its def an early.

in comparison to others on ebay, yes. and what i mean is it is not oily from oil leaks, a layer of dust isn't going to hurt an engine.

The 95-97 has cast alloy fuel rails, not billet steel.

CSI = cold start injector.
The 95-97 doesn't have a cold start injector, so its not going to need the fuel line to it.

if the spark plug leads are original check the date on them.

That's not even the correct plastic cover that came with the 95-97 - that's for the VVTi 1UZ and it's on backwards.

that's funny, because he was trying to pass it off as a 99 until i told him it couldn't be, i think it was an honest mistake. Haha, maybe he thought the bacwards vvti cover would pass it off a 99, not seriously though.
