I keep seeing these ever improving electric so called superchargers...They are currently selling on Ebay for $350 what a joke...

They come with a K&N filter and attachments...

They flow 250cfm of forced air directly into the intake...What do you guys think?...Claims of 25hp gains are to be made...

I would never pay $350 for little electric fan but am starting to wonder as these electric fans come of age and push more air more then ever, is there any substance to these? Here is a pic?

If I could gain a serious 25hp off an electric fan connecting to my intake I would go for it....Is it possible? My commom sense tells me it might be possible to help with lowend or low rpm power...Any thoughts on this crap?

I mentioned this in a past thread but this fan is a little more powerful...

Your engine can probably pass about 600CFM so all you need is 4 of these little beauties.

If you think about it an eaton M90 may draw 60-75hp to drive the rotors it stands to reason this fan should draw a simillar amount of power.

The cables on it should be like starter cables and ithe whole thing should weigh about 100lb.

Please consign these toys to the junk category.

Thanks rod....Point well taken....Junk it remains....

I just think of the power of an electric leaf blower or a strong small electric air compressor....Plug those in and they can push some serious air, do you see where I am going with all this?

The strong electric leaf blowers can push as much 650 CFM.. Hmmmmm..?

I wonder what the equation for CFM flow to equal HP at what RPM on the 4.0 Liter UZ motors is?

Even being more creative how about a strong electric vacume motor to help pull air and exhaust gases threw and out the exhaust...Now I may be banned for that comment....

Jibby,

They used to sell a tailpipe extension over here that was supposed to "extract" the exhaust gases from the pipe.

I had one client (a retired 747 Captain at QANTAS) who swore by it and ran around telling everyone how good it worked on his Jaguar.

See even smart people can be duped.

if you shaped a resonator to have a venturi in it, you might get the same effect to a lesser degree. or make the tailpipes exit into a tunnel in the body with a venturi around it. but i dont really know how effective any of that would be.

4 liters *6500RPM /2 = 13 000 liters of air per minute at WOT full RPM (this is speculation, the engine can't breathe that much air with stock cams and everything else.

basically, if at full RPM wide open throttle your engine breathes 600CFM, and your leaf blower pushes 600CFM, you have 0 PSI, so no power gain. actually the blower is a restriction by the electricity it draws.

you need to push more CFM than the engine needs to produce air pressure in the intake.

forget about electric superchargers. I think the cheapest way to have boost on UZ is going Vortech.

Anyone know how much CFM of pushed air does it take to make 1 PSI of boost in an 1uz...? I want to see how far off the electric blowers are?

Rod, Extracting gases on the Jag...hmmmmm...I guess everything has already been thought of...Being that my trade is in construction and Contracting I often come across some powerful little electic motors, compressors and strong industrial vacume motors...Was thinking as they become more powerful and more advanced in recent years perhaps they can be applied to the automotive industry in one way or another.. Just wondering about the possibilities...

Honestly Mate give it up!!!!

Electric fans are shite and don't believe any of the crap marketing drivel they attach to it.

A car engine is just a big pump and no electric fan powered by the car itself will work as the pumping effect of the car would outstretch it, or with back pressure could reverse it.

If you want a leaf blower you'll need a f****ng long extension lead! ;)

M

Ok Ok, I will give up on electric chargers:Flush: ...I was only inquiring...I wasn't going to actually try it..I need real boost anyway and not a tease....

Electric vacume turbo anyone? :boggled: He he......

So that's a promise we can hold you to then, yeah? Jibbbbby isn't going to post the words 'Electric Supercharger' and 'hey it's worth 3 million horsepower, look it's on the web so it must be true', again!!!!

Yay !!! ;)

(take it on the chin lad) ;)

You can make them... I laid out along time ago that it's possible to make one do *something* constructive using top of the line R/C electric ducted fan parts. I wouldn't say anyone could make 10bhp off one, but maybe something positive... We've already seen dual-motor joined setups pushing 5-7 horsepower. It's just too ineffecient of a way to transfer power. Technology is not there.

AFA any type of "fan" setup. They simply are not possible to work. No type of fan can compress air with any effeciancy. They can only move it like a S/C blower from one side, to another. The differance being a blower does not let air route back through, while a high percentage in a cage, or normal fan - even a ducted fan. Is bypassed around the unit.

The problem is that for the cost of doing that, you literally could physically turbo, or supercharger any engine you want.

Jibby,

From your concept you can put in one of these tanks in your trunk and release the air when you need it. Portable compressed air tank....

LOL..

horizontal-air-tank.jpg

Dude, you sound very desperate.... Get yourself one or two turbos... with a signed check and leave your car with me for about 2 mouths....

Come on Dave....Desperate???? To get laid maybe, but not for a few ponies worth of electric junk....

Just inquiring fellas...

ONE LAST TIME FOR SKID - "ELECTRIC SUPERCHARGERS" !!!! See ya....:tapedshut:

If you guys want to read something funny and have a few minutes to kill ...

I was sort of clowning around on the Club Lexus forum as usual and posted the same threads as this one and got banned for it for a week....Those moderators sure like to flex their muscles on that forum...Check the "club lexus forum", under "sc400 section", then "engine section", then electric supercharger, then electric turbo charger theads posted by Jibby shown on the web page...I got goated into this most recent ban when they all started bashing the 1uz-fe motors....

Totally unwarrented in my opinion by the almighty god like moderator called GSDave...Two totally different posts.. I get bored from time to time and post up on the Club Lexus forum for laughs but really try not to get carried away and get banned.....I get banned anyway on that forum on average about once a month....Those East Coast guys really have it out for me on the Club...It's all kinda funny to me if you ask me...

Hopefully i dont sound like too much of a **** lol, but i watched a funny video years ago of these guys hooking up a leaf blower to there intake and they dynoed it with and without and it made something like 40 extra hp with it on. It was pluged into the wall tho haha

i saw that. it was a civic wasnt it? then they sprayed nitrous into the leaf blower from a valve on the bottle. idiots.

It was a 4 banger Honda Civic. The leaf blower was duct tapped to the intake...It made like and extra 40hp.The thread was posted on this forum I think about a year ago....I am suprised the stock ECU and other components were able to handle the radical intake changes....Not very bright if you ask me, but it worked...for a short time anyway...
