Hi, I was hoping someone might be able to help with some information that I have been unable to find, the best way to wire up the speed sensors to the ECT on a UZS131 crown.
I currently have 3 wires coming from the speedo drive sensor (red/blue,blue/red,yellow/red) and 3 wires coming from the other sensor mounted in the extension housing (green, light green, red).
The SS1 wire (orange) and SS2 wire (black) I assume are the wires where the output from these sensors should go and that the sensors would require a power supply and earth to generate a signal.
I have also read somewhere that one of these signals needs to be divided from 20 pulse to 4 pulse for everything to work correctly.
Any advise that could help reduce the trial and error of this would be greatly appreciated

What are you putting this in? How do you drive your speedo? One of the sensors is probably for the antilock brakes. If it is going in a toyota the speedo probably has a speed sensor in it which you can use.

The vehicle it is going into is a 1995 hilux RN90 (2WD) with a mechanical speedo. I have purchased a pass through type speed sensor to replace the one on the speedo drive. I am not running ABS or traction control. The motor and trans are mounted, the tailshalft is in, fuel system is done and I've just got to compete the wiring to fire it up.

Your speedo may have the appropriate speed sensor inside it for the transmission. The speed sensor may have been discontinued in 1993 so if your speedo does not have it an earlier one may have it. The speedo speed sensor is called "Number 1 Speed Sensor".I may be wrong but check your wiring diagram for the Hilux. Even my 82 Hilux has a speed sensor in the speedo. Sideshow knows a lot more about wiring up UZS131s than I do and can probably give a definitive answer. If you want to read a bit of info on how Toyotas work go to this site.

So do you mean run the output from the speedo head (if I have one) to SS1 and the out put from the pass through sensor on the speedo drive to SS2.

According to the Toyota information you only need one speed input for the ecu and if you have it it should work. My later model crown majesta works ok off the two speed sensors on the transmission. If you can get the correct information going from your pass through speed sensor to the computer it will be a bonus.

u only need 1 sensor
i have a device to do that for 110 bucks
if this sensor or wiring fails u will only have 1st gear
to run the abs / backup sensor u need a device i sell them for 220 bucks

this 220 dollar device u can adjusrt slightly when to change gears eg earlier or later in the rev range
so it holds gears abit longer

Thanks for that sideshow, the pass through sensor that I have is similar to the one you sell (you told me this when I ordered oil filters off you) so I think that for the time being I'll connect it to sp1 and see how it goes.
I have another Problem at the moment, I wired up the rest of the harness on the weekend and got the engine to fire but I dont have any fuel pump controls comming out of the ecu. With the fuel pump relay bridged the car will run but the when at idle hunts from 1300 to 2000 rpm.
Have I got a bad airflow meter or have I just buggered up the wiring?

Have alook at recent threads in this section.

Someone had a similar problem and finally tracked it down.

Advice is freely offered but you need to do some searching as it's all out there.

Thanks for that I just found the thread by HQLEX with HILUXMAD that seems similar to half of my probem so I'll try going through that and it might fix all of it.

Got my car back from the exhust shop and took for it's first drive, auto changed gears well up and down shifts and kickdown with only the pass through 4 pulse sensor wired into SP1 on engine and ect.
Only a couple of things to finish off now one of which is the overdrive switch (OD2 black/red). Does this switch to 12v or earth for overdrive? Black/red wires are usualy ignition switched power feeds on toyota's but the diagram I have doesn't show it.
