Buddy found a SC400, wants opinions...

Hey guys,

My buddy found a one owner, '95 SC400 with 215,000 on the clock. Paint looks good, seats and carpet are new, and the timing belt was done 30,000 miles ago. The owner is asking $3,000 for the car, and I told him to jump on it. What do y'all think? I own a 97 SC400 with 160,000 miles, and it runs great. I've heard of these cars going 400,000+ miles with proper maintenance, so I think it'd be a good deal. Thoughts?

A 95 for $3000 that runs and looks good...Sounds good to me..

Yeah, assuming the car has been maintained well, you should have no issues.

Just remember that the rods on 95+ are slightly smaller

This is true, but it won't be a factor for a stock daily driver.

Alright, so we're going to look at the SC this afternoon. Here is a list of things I've come up with to look for. If y'all can think of anything else, please chime in.

1. Climate Control LCD
2. CD Changer Issues
3. Non-Functional Steering Wheel (Telescopic mechanism)
4. "Clunky" LCA Bushings
5. Leaking PS Pump

The car does have 215,000 miles on it, so I'm expecting some wear and tear, I just want to make sure we don't miss anything when we look over it.

Ok here is the on going check list -

Rear wheel alllignment (look for uneven rear tire wear)
Trunk shocks (see if it stays open)
Driver side door (see if it sags and rubs when opening and closing)
Interior - Brake foot pedal pad, flickering Cluster needles, climate control blackening, Blown stereo speakers..

That's about it off the top of my head...Good luck..
