Righto, I've roughed the loom up for the motor and auto in this jag, its out of a Crown, using the factory auto, take it for a spin and it only selects first, when it try's to up change, it stops engine brakeing, but still only has first gear, usuall not pulling in second/third forward clutchs on other autos, but I'm tipping its in the wiring,

I have 12v to the B/R's at the plug to the solenoids, I've cut everything back from the dash way, and only retains what goes to the ECU and the auto trans, but the diagrams seem to be missing a fair bit, I've applied 12v to economy input and that is all, what am I missing??? or does anyone have FULL diagrams

Thanks

u need a speed sensor signal to ecu otherwise it wont change gears

it will stay in 1st

Yep, there is a speed sensor, comes up with the main loom from the engine and auto, unless its farked of course

It didn't not change, it didn't engage second

if its a corwn egine with 2 ecus then u just cant run th speed sensor straight into the ecu

its tooo many pulses

Yep, Crown with 2 ECU,s It has a speed sensor on the diagram still in place, then a few others marked on the drawing going into the car, what,s altering the signal?

Trying to find the diagram I used to help explain

box has 2 soeed sensors

one goes to speedometer then back to both ecus

2nd one goes to abs ecu then back to auto ecu only

i selll the right speedo drives that go onto the crown auto box and has correct signal to the ecu and u can run a speedo cable onto that sensor aswell

with toyota autos they have 2 speed signals

on a crown most will not spend the money to connect both up propelry caus eu need other devices

so i always jusy hook one up

if a speed sensor fails u have a backup speed sensor

if u do not have a back up speed sensor and the main speed sensor fails
u will only get 1st gear

anyway could be other probs cause i cant see how u wired it

but what yr expalining to me sounds like a speed sesnor

just remember the speed sensors on the gbox cannot be connected diectly to the ecus

they have the wrong amount of pulses

Posted same time:ninja:

So I need another speed sensor and hook it up, via SS1 and SSC, but one with correct pulses, don't need cable drive as it will be electronic speedo

thats sensor on front of box

i think it might be torque converter turbone output speed

u then have 2 sensors on back extension housing

that front does nothing to help with gear changing

ss1 ssc is steering ecu

spd and sp1 are speed sensor signal from dash to engine ecu and auto ecu

sp2 is 2nd speed signal to auto ecu only

u can run either sp1 or sp2

wothout them it wont change gears

if one if missiing do not connect check engine lights or overdrive lights otherwise the light will flash errors

Ahh think you've sparked my brain, there was a Violet and white from both the ECT plug and out of the engine harness, that wasn't joined, it must have looped through the dash somewhere, will join him up and see

they are not looped

spd signal goes into both the violets it comes form the speedo

trust me ive done a million of these

u need 4 pulse inptu signal into those 2 wires which are joned together

if u dont get that signal yr just wasting yr bloody time

Right, so the speed sensor in there, is a different signal, the one that is in there went to the speedo and is altered and goes back to the ECT??

So I need to fit a different sender unit and wire it straight to the ECT as opposed to going via the speedo? which obviously cant as it ain't there:laugh2:

Something must alter the signal, If the existing speedo sendor unit is no good and has a different pulse rate?

There is two on the back of the transmission and NIETHER of these will send the correct signal to the ECT, so something MUST alter the signal given to the ECT?

Sorry to be a pain, just rattleing the brain ready for thursday

Thought I'd get back and update, for anyones future reference

I bought a 4 pulse/rev speed sender unit of Sideshow, wired the banger up and took it for a spin, now what happened was, it would up shift and only downshift sometimes:twak: sometimes it would bog in top until you stopped completely, after playing a little more, I found it would only bog ONCE I'd released my foot completely from the throttle, back if I kept throttle pressure on it would kick down

So anyhow, I kicked the TPS over a little and all is well, I finished the loom shortly after and am just waiting for a speedo and tacho to be finshed and its pick up time for the owner
