A big flaw with the Nissan GT-R

Hello Lextremers -

I recall alot of people on this forum were very impressed with the new Nissan GT-R as was I too. After spending some time on other forums recently I am now finding out the GT-R's flaws. One might say the Nissan GT-R is quite possibly a true lemon with a serious engineering transmission flaw after reading this link....

For NISSAN to do this to their new GT-R owners is a real travesty in my opinion.... Read the very first post in this link as it is an eye opener....

There was only 3-4 cases of this happening. It is also AWD, that increases the transmission load drastically.

I think what it amounts to is pretty shady advertising on Nissans behalf. They should have much more clearly stated, 'We gave you this to go fast, it can damage the car. We will not warrant it under it's use.'

But really, for all we know Nissan may tell the dealers something of the sort. THe dealers may hide info and try and pass it off on Nissan when something is damaged. Really I am only speculating.

On my Tacoma, the electric locker switch says somethin close to 'warning: only use this to free the vehicle from the muddy road.'


If I had the money and wanted one it probably wouldnt stop me. Sports cars are generally abused, especially like the GT-R. I dont think there would be a 10years/100k warranty.

They will have info on rpm etc and how car was treated...
In this case I tend to be on Nissan's side..
The amount of complaints that came in when the new series Falcon came out down under.. The complaint was it wouldn't rev past 5000 with the "clutch activated"...
Now tell me ... Why would you want to rev an engine past 5000 rpm unless you are up to no good ?? !!!!!
Attitude would be its under warranty so I can abuse it !!
Well they only have to check the ECU now...
Local Police have been in trouble also due to speed being recorded in ECU.. Its not like its a function fitted you can't use ?? Its a function that can be abused!!! And sure puts a lot of lead on transmission if driven in an abusive manner...

IMO, the transmission should be capable of handling the power of the engine. If it can't, then what's the point?

I know many people baby their exotic / expensive cars but I don't understand why anyone would buy a fast car and not drive it accordingly. Seems like a waste to me.

You expect it to last ??
If I change down to second gear at 130 mph ???
There has to be some responsibility from driver ...
Maybe they should have rev limiter ?? Like the cars here.. To make them idiot proof !!

From what I have heard, that's exactly what Nissan does in the USA. If the drivetrain is damaged while the VDC is off, the warranty does not cover it. When you buy the car, you have to sign a waiver stating this.

Well what is interesting about these GT-R's is there is a real process behind launching these cars effectively to begin with...Brake torque, button pushing, etc.. This link will show the process in the "test drive video" on the website...Check it out as suggested to launch the GT-R effectively.. VDC function and all...

I think not using the VDC can launch that car in 3.6 for 0-60 mph, then using the VDC might be part of the driver responsibility. But if the VDC is required to make the car going that fast such as Nissan advertised, then Nissan must be responsible. The simplicity is if Nissan advertised the car can go that fast, then the liability must stay with that speed and the specific function used to make the car going that fast. If there're enough buyers complaining to the government agency here https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov, then perhaps that tranny failure will be "Recall".

Hardly a lemon Jibbster.....it takes repeated flogging launches to do this and most cars with this level of grunt will break something if treated the same way.

As for Nissan's response? Better than Subaru with hundreds of WRX engines destroyed from 'spirited' driving and unwarranted even though they no proof of any misuse.

That said, i would be pissed and a bit disappointing Nissan didn't try harder. They had to know this was going to be an issue given all previous model GTRs had box issues once the wick was turned up.

I think it is hideously ugly, with a hideous non luxury interior. And then it is heavy and expensive.
