4 SPD box

Good day, my 4spd box sounds like n power steering pump that have a air lock or not enough oil.
When put in any gear it works for a few seconds and then loses gears. Switch car of for few seconds and start up then gears are back for few seconds.
Any help or advice please.

Possible causes:-
1) low in fluid. Most likely cause of your problem
2) clogged filter. If the filter is clogged, the worry is with what and why
3) buggered trans pump. Possible cause> low on fluid or overheated trans, burnt oil

Drop pan, dump fluid and then examine the fluid.
Has the fluid been burnt or anything in it. This will give some clues as to what the internals are like
Replace filter and pan, then top up trans with the correct amount of fluid.
Job takes about an hour.

With all that done still the same. Oil was not burned but worked for a long time. Filter is clean. Oil pan is also clean. Problem still exists. Flushed box and replaced oil.
