Hi, first post here, nice site you have here. Lot of good info, almost gives me hope... Anyway, I own a 1990 Lexus LS400 with 190k miles on it "ya i know" and to top it off a salvage title which I don't know how to check what the salvage was for. On to the first of many questions. Under the carfax report I did to check what the salvage title was all about "which didn't give me any info except a date issued" it says that my engine is a 4.0L V8 MPI DOHC 24V but I have been reading these forums for a while and I assumed that I had the 1UZ-FE motor. Curious to know if thats just a scientific name for it, so to speak. Any insight would be great.

If your wondering, my front left something or other is blown like so many others also. and a crack power stearing rack/pinion so i'm told... Wonder if its worth the trouble as a struggling college student. Thanks for any info you throw at me.

The numbers mean:

4.0 litre, V8, multi point injection, double overhead cams (per cylinder bank), 24 (should be 32) valves. And yes your car does have a 1UZ-FE

I can't answer your questions on repairability but it sounds like it's hit something in that corner to break the rack and the suspension. Depending on what you can get the parts for and how much you can do for yourself the car may be salvagable.

Work out the parts you need and post a wanted to buy on this Site (further down the Forum list). You never know you might get what you want and have a class car to drive.

I am not sure what is MPI stands for but i havent seen that before. Front left impact and damage PS rack and pinion was a big hit. Honestly speaking if you are college student you should be driving a new model Honda or something. Aged Lexus repair will be costly unless you can do it yourself or we have few tutorials that can help. Best of luck.

Already put a New Alternater, New Starter, New Break Rotors, Fixed a broken fan belt pulley... Its kinda hard to just give up on it now, especially since the motor runs perfect... I think i'm gonna sell it for like $2000 or less just so it sells quickly and put a downpayment on a 1999 Cadillac De Ville D'Elegance.

If anyones interested in picking up an LS 400 with perfect tan leather interior, and strong running motor for cheap lemme know.

What is the value of the salvage title? By law, you can not sell a car with a salvage title for more then the salvage value. I almost got in trouble for that, but got out of it cause the car was a race car that was not street legal and the law only applies to street legal car sales.

This might just be a state law here in florida cause there is a way around it to get a clean title by taking the car more then a certain distance across state lines and title it and you get a clean title. Then bring it back in and re title it. There was a big thing going on hear a few years ago with flood damaged cars being sold as good clean titled cars that came from North Carolina when they had the bad floods from Hurricanes a few years back and also cars that were flood damaged here from hurricanes alike and taken out and brought back in as nothing was wrong and people woundered why they bought cars that were constantly having problems.
