1uzfe time! this is it

Ok just droped off my BMW e30 to our garage for the 1uzfe/w55 conversion :happysad: cant wait till its done.

Now the questions,

1, im going to run a link computer. what model of link will be best for a fairly standard motor ?

2, What cheapish mods can i do to the engine before i get it tuned with the link ? throttle body etc? im keeping the factory extractors as there is no room for custom ones.

3, Currently im running a 3.73 lsd. will this ratio be ok with the w55 and the 1uzfe ? ie, what approx will i be reving at a 100kph ? i have a 2.93 lsd that i could use

4, any way to tell what 1uzfe to go for ? after the most power haha

cheers guys your help will be awesome

Search online and find a ratio calculator. You wil need your tire size, final drive and top gear ratios to work out your speed at a given RPM.

Before fitting the motor it's worth doing water pump, cambelt, tensioner, rebuild starter, check plugs and leads, power steer resourvoir etc. These things are ton's easier to do when the motor's out....

I am running a Link 1 with V4 code, any Link will do what you need. The early Link's like mine need a sub board for the ignition driver so if you are getting a non Link Plus ECU then you need to make sure it has the subboard. Code version 4 onwards allows PC tune.

Good luck and post plenty of pics.

Yes will diff do all the above things, prob run the latest version of the link as i may run a supercharger later on. cheers Matt

Ok i have the diff ratio sorted now (i will be revving around 3000rpm at 100kph), and powerfull version engine (96 front sump, swept exhaust,40,000kms hehe) Link computer sorted.
Now just need to know about minor mods for a few extra hp?
cheers

3000rpm at 100km is probably a touch high. If you are going to do any open road cruising then you probably want to go for around 2500rpm.

You will have excellent acceleration!

Once you have a good intake setup and a custom exhaust and get the Link tuned you will have a good baseline and then you can look at other things like head and cam work and know what improvement they bring.

Cheers,

It sounds like ill be using the 2.93lsd now instead, do you think that will be ok in a 1240kg car with around 260rwhp? if its running a 3000rpm at 100kph with the 3.73lsd. approx what will it be running with the 2.93? 2000rpm ish ? i still want excellent acceleration hehe

Your '96 probably has thin con rods, look here for more details:

You may want to address this before supercharging.

Link not working? mmmm interesting tho. Im sure it would be ok on low boost 5-7lbs. Wont be supercharging in any major hurry tho. Just want to get it up and running first. Any idear what kind of hp i should expect atw with this mild modded (non supercharged) engine and a link ? also what kind of hp at the motor ? cheers

@ 68mph (110kph) with a 2.93 diff ill be revving at 2400rpm.

@ 68mph (110kph) with a 3.73 diff ill be revving at 3050rpm

Looks like the 2.93lsd is the go.

@ 52MPH (85kph) (overtakeing start area) its revving at 3845rpm Perfect for a v8!

What you guys think?

Hello

2400rpm cruising would be nice. If you use a Linkplus G2 I have some N/a maps avaliable. We are using this ECU in most of our conversions. alot smoother than a LEM. I believe a front sumped engine would fit your engine bay nicely.
Cheers

Gear 5th
110kph 2407rpm
with the 2.93lsd

Gear 5th
110kph 3064rpm
with the 3.73lsd

What you guys think? is the 3.73 really that bad ? or am i best to sacrafice a bit of acceleration and go for the 2.93lsd (1250kgs with out driver)

Will it still get off its arse quick with the 2.93 ?
