    3URFE Engine Exposed

Porsche engines have had a Grafel coating on the skirts for years. The GM LS7 also has coated skirts. It allows the manufacture to run a slightly "looser" clearance and keep the cold piston slap to a minimum. Coatings also cut friction. It is done on most race engines. It would be...

    3URFE Engine Exposed

You will just see the Darton MID systems for these motors as well, if they take off and become more popular outside of the Lexus brand.

    3URFE Engine Exposed

I think that block is a sprayed liner block. It has a aluminum sleeve with either an iron or Nikasil (maybe lokasil) coating on the cylinders. I see no reason with good tuning you can't make well over 600hp on those liners with forged pistons. No need for a block guard. The block guard will...

    Upgraded 1UZ Head Studs

Oh, OK. Sometimes I forget you guys down under can't get lots of the stuff we can.

    Upgraded 1UZ Head Studs

I have to ask, why you beleive the 10mm head stud can't handle the HP level you are shooting for? I know of many boosted engines making 200hp per cylinder that don't have a problem with a 10mm head stud.

New Aftermarket Heads for the 1UZ

Until someone maxes out the stock heads I don't see much reason for the Billet heads. The only application I can see for such an item is top fuel drag racing. Very heavily boosted engines could benefit, but it wouldn't make any difference until well over 2000hp.

    SSAutochrome Turbo

That turbo is a prototype that should have never made it out of the manufacture, but it did and was sold by accident. Then the turbo broke and it was allover the web. That said. SSAC and XSP turbos are Chinese copies of Garrett turbos. Some are good some are not. Many will not last more...

I have run into issues fully stressing an engine that wasn't designed for it. Increased wear in the camshafts and engine block. But this was a motorcycle engine, I hope this one works well for you.

Wanted Anybody have a G50 tranny?

Anybody have a G50 tranny case laying around. I need one for mock up purposes. Doesn't have to be complete. Can have a hole in the case as long as I can get length and axle height when I flip it over.

Are you going to cast the pan or cut it from billet?

To decompress or not to decompress

Thats what I figured. It is a more modern design. I am also looking at the Aisin gearbox for the 997. It is a cable shifted box from the factory and it lives behind an engine rated for 350ft-lbs.

To decompress or not to decompress

You can easily hit 500 with twins on a stock engine. You absolutely must have good fuel management (which you have)and a good tune. Shouldn't be a problem. What are you doing for an adapter plate and clutch. I am in the middle of this problem right now. I have a boxster tranny but it will...

    High revs, High comp suggestions?

Without doing cams and heads you won't be much over 350. What six speed tranny?

    Ball Bearing Vs. Sleeve Bearing

Hydrodynamic bearings are not as ineffective as people make them out to be. In reality there is very little friction with either design. I can assure you the friction associated with oil bearings is marginal at full spool, compared to the inertia generated by the turbine and compressor wheels...

    High revs, High comp suggestions?

You need more bore. Nothing wrong with rpm, but it will cost you big money. Why do you think turbos can come out cheaper than an all out NA motor. They are much easier on the engine. A powerful NA engine will require lots of work. You will have to address the valvetrain, long block...

    Engine Oil Cooler

You will find that using a tranny oil cooler for engine oil is not very effective. Ran into this on a GTU RX7 I work on. Used two of those coolers and they were less effective than 1 stock Mazda cooler. Rod is right you must have an oil thermostat. It is the best way to control oil warm up...

    Engine Oil Cooler

What makes you guys feel you need an extra oil cooler? What were you oil operating temps before and after the cooler install. Oil has a higher operating temp than coolant. Are you towing or running high rpm for a long time?

    Lexus racing intake...

I was looking at my engine this weekend and decided that a drysump system should be very easy to reduce the overall hieght of the engine. I think I could do a custom drysump pan out of billet with four suction ports. THis would give me a pan height of about 2 inches max, plus my design would...

Those engines were designed to idle at 5-7K most of these guys will never have a street car that turns 7K. But I bet if the time was spent grinding the cam it could get pretty good. Have you ever dynoed one of these engines with crossover headers? On a small block Chevy packaging constraints...

Sorry I should have quantified myself. For applications where fuel is injected below the throttle plates, slides, and barrels should offer very little difference in performance. Although flat slides will tend to vector the airflow at part throttle applications. When the flat slides are...
