Supercharge and turbo on the same motor?

The 1UZFE EGR Delete Kit is available for sale here.
Lancia did it factory

On The lancia s4 rally cars they did it factory. In full race trim they could develop around 650 Hp from there 1.8ltr super/turbo combo.

They have seperate intercoolers and plenium. They also have a real special head on them, inlet and exhausts on both sides of the head

Im sure to theres a couple of *** mico cars that are also both. 660 ccs with turbo and super and there was definately a kit for a mr2 a few years back to
on the fiat forum. 124turbo.com theres a big thread on a couple of guys doing it to fiat 2lts.

Slight adjustment, lol

The special headed lancia was a prototype group s racer that was twin turbo'ed not supercharged, The earlier group b cars had both super and turbo and a conventional 16 valve head design, the super was plumbed so it could be bypassed when the turbo was making alot of boost

Apparently to vw have a few new cars with a super/turbo combo engine. The engines are supposed to go right across the vw range.

Regarding the MR2's i think twin charging was a popular option. MR2's came in super and turbo charged flavors from the factory, so it was a natural. I believe is was HKS to make the twin charger kit, which i believe is no longer available. You mentioned the lancia had a valve to bypass the supercharger at high rpm/boost for the turbo. That's the only problem i see with these set-up's. if you are running the turbo through the supercharger at all times, isn't the supercharger just goint to end up being a restriction once its maximum airflow is reached? unless you can bypass it.

Hey all,

Couldn't you use the 1GG partsbin for this quite easily?
As you'll only need the valve to block the flow from the supercharger there's absolutly no need for it to be very big, as it shuts off way down in the powerband.

the other thing is that to reduce pump losses you would need a supercharger with a clutch. that can shut down when the turbo's are doing the job. simple auxillary output controll so can be done quite easily.

anyway idea not new but sound likea really good thing on the V8,

if I only had the room.....

Why cut off either? Why not use both to their full potential...Using only partial power on either the charger and or turbo would be defeating the purpose...You might as well twin turbo and set one turbo up for lowend and the other turbo for top end if we are going in that direction...

Nope you can't, unless the turbo's are both feeding from both banks.

You must block the oulet passage from the charger, otherwise the singing snails will put air through the charger towards the intakefilter unless both the charger and turbo's are doing the same volume and boost, in which case there's no point at all in doing an expensive set-up like this. (methinks)

you could use a smallish turbo and 2 big ones, or 2 small ones and 1 big one to tripple charge your set up but then you'd also need to block ways in the exhaust system, that would take some enormous plumbing to get working.
so the better option is the supercharger and when that runs out of oompf, take the charging over to the 2 turbo's that by that time are allready on boost, close the outlet from the charger and simultainiously open the output's from the compressors on the turbo's with a Y valve for instance, and simultainiously(spelling) de-couple the inputshaft of the supercharger because it'll otherwise boost itself to pieces.

the mutliple turbo set-up has been used to good avail by UK firm exvitermini on their 800rwkw nissan skyline GTR. the german /dutch Novitec Firm did your twinturbo 1 for low boost 1 for high boost at the same time using so clever wastegate controll on a 4 cylinder fiat punto 1.4L engine, that thing went like stink!

nice yet expensive plan.
