Ok,

This is so stupid and so interesting. Remember I posted few weeks ago about not getting power to my fuel pump ( http://www.lextreme.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3587 )? Well, guess what? My mechanic installed the cams wrong and the crank and cam signals were off and the ECU would not give power to the fuel pump and no fuel.

Finally the mechanic took the cams out and re-installed it. The car is running now but its having problem with idle. The big question is would the faulty installation of the cams affect the valves and pistons? In another word, do u think my valves are damaged because of the pistons hitting it? I talked to JBrady and he stated the Pre-94 engines are none-interference. So is that mean the valves are un-damage?

I do have slightly dished pistons with .60" MLS gaskets (stock is .051") I am just crossing my fingers about the valves being damage.

What do u think?

The only Toyota motor in production that is interference is the 2UZFE.

The 2ZZGE probably is but only in full VVTL-i mode.

That aside, you are fine.

If the idle is rough, then there is a chance one cam is off one too.
Are you getting a CEL ?

Peewee, Lexus state the 90-94 1UZFE is non-interference but the 1995 260hp/270tq and newer 1UZFE/3UZFE engines are interference. Still, David should be fine.

Curiously, the original factory camshaft timing belt service schedule for the 90-94 engines was 60k miles whereas the later engines were 90k miles. This is doubly odd due to the interference changes. I doubt the earlier engine actually NEEDs this service before 90k miles so this could be a definite money saver for those engines affected.
