what is the most sufficient way to do a swap on a 91 LS 400. The actual problem is that the number 5 cylinder is low on compression. what would be the best way to deal with this situation at hand. Should I change the motor, change the head or just rebuild the head. Worse case scenario if I had to do the engine swap can someone send me a diagram on the entire engine compartment so that when I do it, it will be that much easier.

Just change the motor; you can probably get another off eBay for $500 or less.

If your existing motor has a piston with a broken ring or a blown head gasket, you'll probably spend nearly as much trying to fix it as swapping it. Plus you'll have to find yourself a good import mechanic and machine shop to do the work.

Faster and cheaper to change the motor. And there are no "diagrams" of the engine compartment that I know of. You just need to tag hoses and connections as you take them loose, so they'll be easier to put back on.
