Guys,

in this topic I will post the progress we are making on my '96 LS 400.
My car is being built by Arnout @ www.supras.nl

Slowly we are getting all the parts to finally start building, but sofar the list of modifications is:
- Turbo T88 34d
- 60 mm Wastegate Tail V-Band
- Boostlogic Built automatic + Torque converter
- CP Pistons (custom spec)
- Scat Rods
- Partially grouted 1UZ block
- Nitrated Crank
- Upgraded Springs
- ARP Hardware (***)
- Electrical Powersteering
- 1 qrt Accusump
- Torsen 3.2 Differential
- Greddy Emanage
- 8x 720cc
- 2 (or 1) Walbro pumps
- Upgraded Brakes
- 3" all the way exhaust, dual exhaust pipes

Goal will be 500+ rwhp.

(I also have a 3UZ that is being built be Arnout, but I will report on that later)
 
fasteddie- Props on picking a g*dd*mn LS400!!! Seems like it's always an SC or a Supra getting all the 1uz goodies. Your paint looks like mine, off blue/grey? thanks for the eye candy, the pics alone were enough to get off my lazy ass and start fiddling with things LOL.

Yes, color is grey....and this '96 LS is in perfect condition, so it will be a blast to drive once it's done :drive:
Updates will come soon, currently the heads are being prepared...and the exhaust will be welded..etc etc...
 
Today we decided to start with the optimisation of the intake manifold. We want to get rid of that stock intake manifold with its long runners. Most likely a Q45 throttle body with optimized velocity stacks, volume 4+ maybe even 5 liters.

Some more progress on the buckets and valve clearance:
(3UZ buckets with 3S-GTE performance springs, shim under bucket)
 
What shims did you end up using mate? oh and also, which collets and retainers?

From memory Cribbbj had quite a few issues getting the shim under to work. I'm looking to do shim under using the 1UZ VVTi gear

1UZ valves, 3UZ buckets. Retainers, collets, shims and springs are all 3SGTE stuff. 3SGTE performance springs also give the right seat pressure, Supra springs made the pressure too high which might cause extensive wear.

I just had some "huge" gaps between the heels of the reground cams and the valve stems, which required the thickest shimless buckets Toyota offered (5.74mm) plus additional shims under these buckets.

I found that shim under setups for the early 1UZ motor required either RB26 retainers to be used, or 2/3UZ retainers, modified/bored out to fit the 1UZ's larger OD valve stems (6mm instead of the 2/3UZ's 5mm).

Once we put all this in place, it was sorted, and the engine was happy.

I wasn't aware the 3SGTE retainers were setup for shim under bucket. If so, then they're probably a much better alternative. Got photos?

Hmmm 3sGTE stuff is an interesting option....pity as i had all that gear and sold it :( Still, i have a rallyshop locally who specialise in 3S gear so they may have a heap of gear sitting around i can play with.
