hey to all not to sure if anyone has done this so i might be the first

i hooked up tiptronic one of kdogs kits
they work very good

then i got bored with the small toggle switch and i didnt want coiled up cables running from buttons on the steering wheel to the column then to the tiptronic unit

so i had this remote control transmitter and reciever unit

it looks like a small alarm pad with 2 buttons

once it was all connected roughly for testing

i have this small alarm pad sort of unit

i press one button and it changes up gears

i pres the other button and it goes down gears

soon i will fabricate this unit into the horn pad area of the steering wheel

then run wires from the buttons to new buttons on edges of steering wheel

so this means i have remote control tiptronic

once i get it all nice and neat under dash ill get pics of the steering wheel

im chasin either rx8 or mazda jazz paddle steering wheel sto make the tiptronic like an F1 car

but these wheel sare hard to come by so i might make my own

soon i will work out how to have a mutliple switch so i can toggle from full manual to full auto

it cant be to hard i know what needs to be done in my head now i just have to put it to work

but with the tiptronic it still takes afew milli seconds to change gears
( a shift kit will fix this prob) but atleast between gear changes the car doesnt loose momentum it feels like its still powering along

notlike the std ecu gear changes where u loose abit

anyway ill let u all know how my research is goin

im pretty sure no one has remote control tiptronic and i hope to develop it further

ill keep u all up to date when i get the unit all nice and neat

Sideshow, this sounds interesting; I'll need a paddle setup or buttons on the steering wheel for my Supra install. Making it wireless too would be pretty cool.

Just make sure you avoid the usual "Open band" frequencies. It would NOT be cool to have some kid flying his RC airplane downshift you into 1st gear as you fly by, doing triple digits.

If you get it all sorted out, and are interested in selling a kit, PM me.

oh wouldnt that situation be just fuckin dandy!!

its not really a kit

just goto jaycar and buy a 2 channel transmitter and receiver unit

im not sure what frequency they use

but u can downshift gears and if yr driving too fast it wont select that gear

so there is sort of a safety there in the gbox

i think now all i need to get good quick shifts is a shift kit in the trans

the hard part is tryin to find a multiple switch to go from full auto to full manual

the good thing is the engine computer just brings the check light on when i disconnect the auto ecu and the engine still runs fine doesnt get into limp mode

but ill always have the original switch to change up and down gears cause i pressume the batteries wont last long heheeh

I have had tiptronic style buttons on my steering wheel for over a year, no external wires and LED backlit buttons. No batteries needed either. If the market was bigger i would sell the complete tiptronic kit.

Would be very likely the tx/rx modules you are using sideshow are around 433MHz, this is the standard frequency for such devices.

would a series/bank of relays do the trick?
i had the sugestion made to me when i was considering the kit, the local speedo mob said it should be easy...?

is this in a lexus or a transplant, stock ecu or standalone. Just wondering b/c with the stock ecu wouldn't it still decrease timing inbetween shifts?

its a crown 1uz with 2 ecus

i have unplugged the auto ecu

the engine light come son but im not worried
still drives beaut

im goin to do some testing on the auto ecu

i think since the crown has 2 ecus then its better suited to this job

where if u had the single engine/auto ecu then it might cause probs

i dont have a later 1uz to do testing on and im sure no one will pay me to do it

anyway it still shifts slow but not as bad as std

it actualy still has good load on driveline when changing gears all i do now is drive with about 40% throttle now

i dont back right off sometimes just click up and down gears

much better power due to i can change gears around 4000 rpm but still only have half throttle

hey max the buttons must then go thru the base of the steering wheel where the horn ring is

the prob with that is u need the other ring on the column to match

if i had a late model car it would be easier

as they have cruise and other stuff on the steering wheel

i still have to hook up cruise i have everything bar the buttons

so im seeing what best way to do that is

i dont want to many gadgets on the car if it looks messing

so i run everything roughly for tests then rewire it properly to hide it all

I use just the single factory horn ring, momo wheel but has the horn ring from the original wheel. The buttons are multiplexed along with the horn on the one wire.

cribbj: heres a pic for ya....

Horn, LED power, up and down buttons share the same wire, all produce different resistances so my tiptronic unit can determine which button is pressed. Works just like the late model cruise and radio control buttons.

Nup, whould have been nice though. The silver bits are push buttons and they are mounted to some sheet aluminium, didnt want to drill 22mm holes through the wheel as it will make it a little weak.
