How do I get reverse lights working?

I have a 91 Surf with 1uz and auto

I have no reverse lights and cannot see how to get them going. If I could find the output from the gearbox or ecu i could run a relay and wires to the back and get it going.

I even thought about running a microswitch on the shifter, but cant see a good place for that either.

Should there be 12v at the ecu when in reverse? I checked on the diagram but the R wire from the gearbox shifter switch doesnt.

You could wire it directly from the selector plug. "NOT going to ECU"
I can't remember the color of the wires... But, you could put 12v on the main wire "thick one" and see which one will have power when in R position.​

what gbox r u running
what wiring are u runnign to gbox
surf or 1uz

the inhibitor should have 12v
and one wire should have 12v when in reverse
normally red with blue trace is the feed

and red with black trace is reverse

no relays are needed and the 12v wire is no thicker than the others

if u used the surf gbox wiring then id have to search my info as i usually cut that out
so dont know info off top of my head but its pretty easy to find it
you could even check whihc wire has 12v then remove backup light fuse and see which one looses power

its a lexus auto with lexus wiring

the wiring going to the gearbox is the selector switch, speed sensors and transfer motor.

i tried the red/black wire at the ecu but there was not 12v

u prob havnt powered up the inhibitor and speed sensor same wire
thats y u have no power to the red/black

it doesnt get powered when u just connect 7 wires to get motor running
most of the inhibiotr wires are not connected to the ecu
