Fueling problem

Hey guys ! im new to the forum, i have a 91 2wd hilux with a 1UZ, and everytime my fuel tank gets low my truck starts to hesitate quite violently. But when I fill the tank up with some more petrol it completely goes away ? im completely lost.. Have taken it to the mechanic and he says that the pump isnt picking the fuel from the bottom of the tank as it has a 2.7L pump in it. does this sound right ? im a complete noob. any help is appreciated !

I would recommend checking the fuel flow and pressure of the pump and if these are ok taking it out and measuring how deep it is in the tank. The Factroy toyota pumps are normally pretty good but like everything they do wear out. I have run plenty of 1uz in hiace with the 1RZ (2litre) pump as they will flow 140 l/hour at 3 bar. When it is low how much fuel do you put into the tank to fill it completely up again? Is it a factroy 2.7 tank or has the tank been modified to accept the 2.7 pump? Cheers

Fuel flow and pressure are both good I am told. Will take the pump out today. I was told that the fuel pump did not reach the bottom of the tank and couldn't pump the fuel sitting on the bottom, and am not sure how to fix this. Will take pictures once I remove it.

Maybe keep the fuel gauge above 1/4 tank?

Have u thought of running a surge tank with a lifter pump? I have a 1uz hilux but I'm running a Bosch 044 external pump. When it's gets to a 1/4 tank it will surge and carry on only if I drive it hard. Just been to lazy to set the surge tank up so I drive it nice from a 1/4 tank on

A correctly set up intake pump should work fine for most 1uz motors. Check the measurements and see how it looks is the best idea. Cheer
