Here's an interesting question... A MKIV Supra forged piston is 87.00mm. The bore on 1uz-fe is 87.37mm. Is this a proper clearance to install Supra forged pistons?

The 1uz-fe rods are very stout looking.. Would these rods with, a shotpeen, ARP Rod bolts, cryogenics, and Clevite bearings theortically be able to handle ~1000rwhp?

What I am thinking (possibly) is that the 1uz rods look about as stout as the MKIV rods, and people have already hit over 1000rwhp on a 100% stock MKIV bottom end. If we combine MKIV 87mm forged pistons, "treated" 1uz-fe rods, and new Clevite bearings, you'd have a bottom end that can rev to the moon, and have severe HP potential...

1.336 CH stock 1uz pistons...

1.338 CH forged MKIV pistons...

wrist pin diameter for both... 22mm

Can this work?

87mm bore piston in 87.37 cylinder = way too much piston-to-wall clearance. .37mm is more than .010 inches,piston-wall clearances are measured in thousandths and ten-thousandths of an inch. I'm assuming the CH you posted is compression height? The 2JZ's taller CH will increase compression and could create an interference problem with the valves and possibly combustion chamber.

Why use aftermarket forged 2JZ pistons when aftermarket forged 1UZ pistons are available? Correct bore, correct CH,if both pistons are from the same manufacturer they'd be made from the same material.

it would work for sure if you order the 2JZ forgies in first or second oversize.

I think that there may be some confusion here. The 87.37mm should be the piston diameter as a 1uz is an 87.5 bore. This would leave you with .13mm piston to wall clearance. which even then is a bit loose depending on the type of use. The other thing is that that must be a 1mm over bore 2jz piston as the stock bore is 86mm for all JZ series engines. Either way, not worth it being that fordged slugs are avalible for the 1uz where you would most likely have to buy 2 sets of JZ pistons to get the 8 needed. As for the CH differance of .002, that will be fine. Just a slight rise in compression, but not enough to make any real differance. It would be the same as decking the block .002

From this site, the sleeve bore is 3.433, so taking that figure and converting, I came out with 87.37mm. Is this figure accurate?

An 87mm piston in an 87.37mm bore has .187mm piston to wall clearance since the difference is .37mm / 2. The figure of .010 = .254mm piston to wall clearance. Still may be a bit loose inside the bore?

I'm looking at all of this because the forged pistons for the 1uz-fe are 1,300 dollars rather than a price that's easier to swallow since 2JZ pistons are radily available by many manufacturers. Am I missing a cheaper price somewhere?

Thanks guys for all of the help and assistance. : )

Eric

GROUP BUY..... You would need double over bore pistons. You should consider .015" over bore if its is use on 1uzfe. So if you can find an extra over bore 2jz pistons, then it might work, but i dont think you can find such large over bore. Second problem i found with 2jz parts. They only come in 6 pieces of things. If you do the math.. its not much cheaper if you can make it work.

So from what I understand, we can purchase a set of Ross pistons for under $600 since there's already many on the list? Wow. Now that's a deal.

A set of stock spec Pauter rods may be in order. The savings in Chevy rods looks like it would be up offest in the cost of grinding the rods width, and machining the crank.

Thanks,

Eric

THere used to be an 87.5mm a while back, but I suppose there wasn't enough demand because I can't seem to find them anymore. If the Ross pistons are readily available, then that solves that problem. I didn't think that they we're available as of yet.

From what it appears to be. The rods, and crank are good for ~900rwhp reliably, and might be pushed higher. Only the bearings and pistons would be replaced

Thanks guys,

Eric
