As most of you would know I took my hilux for a run afew weeks ago with the 1uz in it and on that trip I had a few problems come up. Water pump started leaking badly and the power steering pump died. Well we had a good look at it today (I haven`t touched it since the trip) and it also has a blown head gasket. Yep the water in the radiator is like a spa bath. No water in the sump but.

Now if I buy water pump and t belt etc aswell as the headgasket stuff it will end up costing me the same if not more then just getting another complete motor and that is without taking any time in to it to fix the stuffed motor. On top of this if I just get another complete motor I will have alot of spare parts which could come in handly in the future. Or over TIME I could buy the bits needed to fully rebuild it, doing this over a year or 2 wouldn`t break the bank.

Since I have the ECU, airflow meter etc I don`t need a half cut and just need a complete motor, doesn`t even need a loom as I have that already.

I have been doing some searching on the net for 1uz`s and have found 2 or 3 at around $1100.00. They are complete motors minus the gearbox, P/S pumps, ECU, loom etc. Are these good prices or not? I think they are ok as I found lots of others for around $1500 to $2000 for the same thing.

If you have bought just a motor where did you get it from and what did you pay?

I've seen them advertised for less. I got mine from SSS Automotive up here at Giraween for $1500, but that included everything like ECU/AFM?harness/ECU etc etc. I'm sure you can get them for under a grand bare.....

Yeah I always thought they were dearer. Their engine packages seemed expensive. Sideshow suggested I rang them and it came through.
Having said that, I didn't necessarily mean they'd be cheaper, I was just certain i'd seen them for cheaper.
There's one on eBay in Melbourne for $1100, he's listed it about 5 times that i've seen so you may be able to haggle him down after the auction (HondaSpares.)

Normal price for a 1UZ is $1100-$1200 for midsump with p/s, alt, cut loom. May or may not include aircon, may or may not include autobox.

I wouldn't pay more than $900 for something without aircon, p/s, alt.

All you need is a block and heads though. You don't need any manifolds, (intake or exhuast), or any accessories. Email/PM QCA, he should be able to cut you a deal.

That said, I have never heard of a 1UZ that has BHG'd. Unless you really cooked it for a long time.
I've had mine over 100degC for a a few mins on numerous occasions, and I think Sideshow has had his over 110degC many times too.

Check these guys out

They will sell you a complete motor and gearbox minus AFM, ECU and ignitors for $900

On this weekend it blew a rad hose but the radiator wasn`t hot I could sit my hand on it no worries, same for the rocker/cams covers. So I don`t think the motor ever got overly hot.

You say the water pump is stuffed?
Maybe its taking in air there?
Maybe the radiator has a leak?

For the 15mins it takes to remove all spark plugs, and test each cylinder for compression, I'd do it before jumping to any conclusions.

Although, it doesn't sound good.

I got mine from Ichibahn in Sydney, 900 bucks without computer. It had all sensors and stuff but the loom was cut. It had all the pumps etc on the front.

I'm happy.

Or do a TeeKay test. Most workshops will do this for ten bucks and its dead accurate.
Unless its running rough its unlikly to be a head gasket. Alloy heads on an alloy block are very hard to pop gaskets on.

Hey Guts what ended up happening with this???

The 4runner started having all the exact same symtoms yesterday...:damnit:

The missus will take it into work early next week and get a compression test done, but I've got the same predeciment with wether to fix this motor, or buy another motor and slowly rebuild the old one over time....(set it up for boost but!!! :cool2: )

I got my new motor off Zuffen and he has the old stuffed one. Ask him as he might have pulled it apart by now and had a look inside it to see just what did stuff up.

I think you will find it cheaper to get another one. Plus its only a days job and you can have it back on the road again.
