Another Canuck

Just thought I'd post up finally, been lurking for awhile.

I'm an Auto tech and have a small shop in Surrey, BC, Canada. My current side project is swapping a 1UZ-FE in to my '92 Hilux X-tracab 4x4 (currently 3.0l V6)

At this time I'm about 1-2 weeks away from test running the engine on the stand. Specs are:

Stock internals
Megasquirt II
Ford EDIS 8
5 spd

Possible build up to come..

Any pics? How are you mating the motor to the stock tranny?...Custom bellhousing adaptor and where did you get it? Are you concerned about instrument integration?

I have been thinking of starting a swap myself... Sorry for the questions..

I suppose you are going to custom make new motor mounts as well, custom driveshaft?

Are you a Vancover Canuck and George St. Pierre fan? (A little of topic, my bad)

I'm going to try to make an adapter plate for the r150, that's the next step after a test stand run. I have a MR2 flywheel being redrilled as we speak, so hopefully that will be the clutch sorted.

The only instrument that will be an issue is the tach. I'm going to save a capture of the stock V6 tach signal waveform on my labscope for comparasion. Hopefully I can swap out a 4cyl tach and run it off 1 coil pack, but that can be figured out after the truck is driveable.

Why you don't use the stock coils ?

The donor car for the EDIS had been robbed of it's coils and the MSD coils were less expensive than the stock replacement.

Plus they match the wires...

It's good to see someone else using a Megasquirt. I'm going to be running a megasquirt on mine aswell except I'm going to use the standard duel dissy and trigger wheel set up. I'm also using a second MS2 chip to control the standard auto gearbox.

The red coils do look good with the red leads.

I am also planning to MS2 in my 1uz with the standard duel dizzy and trigger wheel set up. But in this case do I need to use ford EDIS8 ?​

mshawari1, EDIS8 wont work with the standard trigger wheels and duel dissy setup so you wont need it. You will need to run the MS2extra firmware to use the stock setup. I plan to do a write up about my setup as soon as I know it works. If you do a search for my user name here and on the MSextra web site you will see what I'm up to.
