Hi Andrew,
Everything worked out beautifully !
BACKGROUND:
A couple of weeks ago my car had all its original suspension (and steering
rack) bushes from 1992 - except for a set of cheap-n-nasty blue nolethane
bushes up front on the lower control arms. The ride was OK, but I always
suspected it was too 'bouncy' - minor bumps in the road would cause the nose
of my car to move up and down more than normal. When my wife was in the car
she would indicate this to me by nodding her head back and forth. She was
right though, her new Mirage had a smoother (and quieter) ride than my
little baby. In addition to the bounce, my suspension would occasionally
creak and groan when going up gutters or over speed bumps - more noticeably
when it got cold, and Canberra's winters get bloody cold (it was like my car
had arthritis).
ACTION:
First step was to take care of both stabiliser bars so I bought (and
installed myself) two front, and two rear, D-bushes from Toyota. This
actually made a small improvement to the ride quality and reduced (but
didn't eliminate) the suspension noises. Second step was to take care of
the steering rack so I purchased two of your bushes and bought the third
'grommet' bush from Toyota. These three bushes were installed by Neil
Griffiths along with your control arm bushes. The install of these bushes
made a noticeable improvement to the car's steering - there is now less
'play', it is also much smoother and more responsive, and shocks from the
road are absorbed more effectively. Final step was to take care of ALL the
control arms (ie. front/rear, upper/lower). The installation of all your
control arm bushes was where the greatest gains and improvements came from -
as indicated above these were also installed by Neil.
RESULT:
What can I say ?, "THANK YOU". NVH levels inside the car have been reduced,
body roll when cornering is not as noticeable, there is less squat/dive
under acceleration/braking, bounce at the nose has virtually been
eliminated, and there are NO noises/eeks/creaks/squeaks/clonks or donks
coming from the suspension when I go over (speed) bumps, gutters, etc. Most
importantly, the ride quality has been significantly improved (as if the car
was brand new), she now feels more stable on the road, and the increased
enjoyment and satisfaction I obtain from driving her now is more than I
expected two weeks ago.
The investment in your bushes has been worth every cent and I would not
hesitate in recommending them to anyone. Keep up the good work Andrew - I
look forward to your future products and releases.
Best regards,
Ron.
PS: A big thank you to Neil for installing everything in one day - I know
your level of workmanship warrants no questioning.
