'90 LS400, sensor to right of defrost vent

I'm trying to find out what the "sensor" to the right of the front window defrost vent in my '90 LS400 is for. The car doesn't appear to have an auto headlight setting which is what some folks have said the sensor is for.

Hi, I believe it is the in cabin air temp sensor for the aircon.

Turns out it's a solar sensor specifically for the A/C system, though I still don't know exactly how it influences the A/C functions.
