Hello UZ-fans !

I have some questions about the 1UZ engine. We bought a LS 400 (1996)with engine code UCF 20 (we also have a 3UZ (2004 LS430) block that is currently being built to handle 1000hp, so 2 projects :)).

Questions:
- The engine code UCF20 means that we have the "weaker" rods, right ?
- We will run the engine with a T88.34d, starting with a moderate 7psi....any idea if the "weaker" rods can handle this (off course we will find out anyway :smlove2: )...How much psi is the max on these rods?
- Also the pistons seem to be a weak spot....what can we expect to give up first ? (pistons / rods ?)
- anybody here driving a turbocharged UCF 20 ?

We will use the same setup as Lextreme with the "connected headers"...only we will keep the airco, so we use the left side header as a collector, instead of the right side (as Lextreme did)....

Any feedback is highly appreciated !
Thx !

Hey Eddie,

Welcome to our forum. My advice is this. If you plan to run big power out of your T88 and go through the trouble of turbing it. Might as well do the engine too. Its better not to find out how much the rods can take. When you find out then its too late. This is why www.lextreme.com/tundra.html

The best thing is to plan things out and do it right the first time and save yourself some money, headache and downtime.

Lex,

agree...the 3UZ block is being build with the best components as we speak.
With the 1UZ (ucf 20) we know we run the risk of blowing up the engine, but with 7psi (maybe max. 14psi) and a proper tune...we think the setup should work (for a while)..if it breaks down we still have a spare 1UZ available...:smlove2:

Do you have any idea what setup might be on the safe site ???

That Tundra sure looks like a mess !...was it properly tuned ?

@XR8tt: if academic...what would you consider a good tune in this case, knowing the rods/pistons can not hold that many "power" ?

THX guys!

Sorry,

Misread your UCF20. We hardly use that code so I though it meant LS430. 1uzfe will little stronger and capable of 500 rwhp.

Tune as in AFR of 11.7 dynotune.Tune timing two or three degrees safe [retarded]... This depends on engines compression etc...
I use either Haltech or EMS 8860 stand alone ECU's ..
My combination is Argo rods and 8.8 to 1 comp c.p pistons..
With Gt4202 and up to 20 Lb boost on C16...
I may require some better than std cams to get the best out of it...

Thx guys!

to show you that we are making some progress...here is a FMIC pic:

We might rotate a view degrees to get more air in the FMIC...

We relocated the battery....but leave dynamo, airco and power steering in place....
More pictures soon.....

The UFC20 1UZ block is the one with the weaker rods (as can be found in the Tundra i think)....but we will find that out :smlove2:

About the 3UZ block we are building:
this block is being fully built....and will probably also get a GT42R...

Eddie, we have some known issues with posting photos here, and the best way around them is to post only in landscape orientation, with an initial resolution of 1024x768 pixels.

I use a free MS program called Image Resizer which is a one click, no brainer of a program to resize one or multiple images. It won't change orientation, however, so if you start out with a portrait type image, you'll still have to do some cropping or rotating of your image.

Edit: I see you found the problem with your 2nd image and already corrected it...

Interesting, this looks like a way to get around the portrait display problem; here's a 576x768 portrait photo I've linked from PhotoBucket:

There's just something about the look of clean aluminum and stainless that is porn for a gearhead.

I'm probably about two years behind you (bought the motor in August of 2005), but I've done some catching up in the last three months.
