Was lowering my car today after checking the exhaust and suddenly there was a rush of air coming from around the compressor area.

The car quickly sank to it's bump stops and would not re-pressurize, despite the compressor working full pelt.

So I whipped off the wheel arch cover (sound of escaping air came from there) and found the problem.

The air is being blasted out of these two small holes in the plastic cylinder.

What worries me is that it looks like it is supposed to do that, which means it's not just a simple leak.

Does anyone know what this part is, and why the system has stopped holding air?

The compressor will run if I plug in my aftermarket ride height controller.

If I disconnect the ride high controller, the hi/low light will flash on the dashboard and the compressor will not run.

If I connect the ride height controller, the light will stay on and the compressor will run, but the system wont pressurize as it is jettisoning the air out of the cylinder.

Any help would be appreciated :)

it looks like those holes are part of a over pressure relife and it has failed is that motor the pump or a solanoid it looks to small to be the pump if it is a solanoid it would control the release of air try checking the fuse

after a bit of experimenting I found that if I hit it with a hammer the valve will close, so it's a sticky valve inside this plastic cylinder which I believe to be some sort of "dryer".

The sticking valve is an exhaust valve inside the unit which unfortunately is completely sealed, so I can not get inside it to repair whatever has gone wrong.

Hitting the unit every time the valve sticks seems to be working, unfortunately this is not a practical solution for a daily driver as I need to take off the wheel arch cover to get access.

If anyone knows where I can locate a new dryer for less than Toyota's asking price (£650) I would be very grateful :)
