Where to put O2 sensors

The o2 sensors that are on the manifold foul on the subframe so i want to move them further down the system. Theres only one per bank ( with a single wire ?) How close to the engine do they have to be? Can i move them further down with no ill effects?

single wire O2 sensors need heat from the ehaust gasses to get up to operating temp. the further away you put them, the langer it will take for them to warm up and for the ECU to go into closed loop. That's why O2 sensors that have a stock mounting location further downstream have a heating circuit. Shouldn't be a problem to move 'em, they will just take longer to warm up. How much further down do you plan on going?

Going to put a bend on the end of the manifold and then a short straight piece with the sensors on. Probably bout 9" further down.

That should be fine. I bought a downpipe for my MR2 turbo that relocated the single wire O2 sensor down by about that much and it worked without a problem.
